Two Straws in a Chocolate Shake ©2015 Robert George BMI
There’s a wheelchair by a window
In the Restfield Nursing Home
And that window is a portal
For a trip he takes alone
To a Tuscaloosa malt shop
Back in 1958
There’s a boy and girl in love, and to them true love was
Two straws in a chocolate shake
Then that windowpane gets blurry
Till it shows a diff’rent scene
It’s a young man down on one knee
With a pink rose and a ring
When his sweetheart gave her answer
It was time to celebrate
But instead of fine wine, they pledged love for all time
With two straws in a chocolate shake
Then he sees a baby in a bassinette
And a cottage by a clear blue lake
Time moved on and yet, their hearts could not forget
Two straws in a chocolate shake
Then there comes the sound of teardrops
Tappin’ on the windowsill
Cos he sees a lonely tombstone
Sitting on a willow hill
And he knows she out there waiting
Somewhere past the Pearly Gates
She's in his memory, where true love will always be
Two straws in a chocolate shake
O there’s a wheelchair by a window
In the Restfield Nursing Home
And that window is a portal
For a trip he takes alone
Back to two straws in a chocolate shake
Two straws in a chocolate shake…
