Be Hungry, Not thirsty!!! (A Self Analysis Tool)
A lot of us are so ready to succeed, or at least we think we are. Read the list below to see where you are

If you are hungry you will.......

1. Focus on your craft not the opinions of others
2. Take criticism and grow stronger
3. Use your free time to better your craft
4. Stop trying to pay for success and study to earn it
5. Study your competition and learn from them
6. Not do what your competitor does, you will do what they wish they were doing
7. Think while you are seep and implement while you are awake
8. Never let a "NO" stop you
9. Push until the engine starts
10.Help others on the way up

If you are thirsty you will........

1. Focus on others craft instead of your own
2.Get mad when you are criticized
3. Spend your free time on things that have nothing to do with your craft and complain when things never turn your way
4. Find as many people as you can and pay them the get you to the top
5. Hate your competition and never use the good attributes of your competition of
6.Just copy your competition and never develop your own style in your chosen craft
7. Never saturate your mind with your craft, never put it first and foremost
8. Let the word "NO" Crush your and anger you to the point of giving up
9. Never push yourself and only do what is convenient
10. Never understand the power of doing things for free to boost your "Karma"

Take the test and see where you fit. If you are hungry stay hungry and if you are thirsty you will only be pissed cause that is all a thirst can bring you.

I'd have to say I'm both a hungry and thirsty creature. I've seen more disappointment in my lifetime than anyone would wish for, so someone criticizing my work like "What the hell is this? Where'd you come in from? 1994?" I'd say "You don't like it, go compose something yourself." I welcome constructive criticism, just no criticism, criticism.

Copying the competition, my take is in a lot of bands first albums, you can hear their influences come out in their music a lot of the time. On a personal level, I struggle to be able to study the competition as I generally hold a low tolerance level on today's "music" (I don't mean to come off as a purist). This goes especially for country, which seems to have exploded ironically. There's this joke I bring up in how guitarists get ideas and that is "We just stare mindlessly into the amp and play random BS on the fretboard until something in our mind screams eureka!"

I have to disagree though on the premise that being thirsty includes spending your free time on things that have nothing to do with your craft. If its all one does, yeah I would definitely agree iwth that premise, but if one needs to spend a couple hours on the Wii U to take a break from the craft, then do it to clear the fog. You can't rush art, the creative boom comes on its own terms, you can cast your rod out into the sea and work on reeling in the jackpot, but that riff, that melody that sounds absolutely perfect, will come on its own terms. In other words, creativity cannot be turned on and out like a faucet. It can, but there's a better chance what will be made is mediocre if you force it.
But good points.
