Hi guys,
Is bass necessary for film/TV?
I guess I should say for TV specifically...cues. Had a cue selected and also forwarded a few times but forgot to add the bass. Should I add the bass or just move on since its getting forwards and placements?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Is bass necessary for film/TV?
For a underscore piece, no bass may work fine under dialogue in certain situations.
If it's getting placements, it seems to work for the end user. Why argue with that?
Depending on your instrumentation, you may still have something there that fills in as a bassline, even if you have no actual bass.
There's no rule that states music always need a bass, so the question can't be answered from a musical standpoint.
From a production standpoint, you can ask if the track feels balanced without a bass. Some piano/guitar tracks can work fine without bass.
But if you say you forgot, it sounds like you had a bass in mind for the arrangement, and therefore you feel it's not finished. Then it also becomes an ethical issue - can you accept to put out music you feel is not finished? That feeling may hount you down the line, despite or maybe actually because, it is getting you placements..

Thanks. I guess it won't hurt to add a little bass and see how it sounds.
Much appreciate the feedback.
