Anyone use this controller?

Post by guscave » Mon Jan 26, 2015 2:44 pm

I'm looking into condensing my recording gear. Anyone has any experience (good or bad) with this midi controller: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UMA25S.aspx

The main thing I like about it is that it has a built in audio interface.

Kinda neat. But... Behringer isn't known for quality ADA. Also, is it velocity sensitive?

Other than that, I looks like an EXCELLENT interface for an on-the-road laptop get-it-down-quick-while-I'm-inspired interface

FWIW I've had consistently good luck with Behringer. I have a a midi floor pedal that' been getting stomped on for years in smoky bars and then thrown into my trunk and it still works great. I know a number of guys with Ber mixers that like them. Don't let the price influence you, I think it's one of those rare occasions where you actually do get a good deal.

Behringer's stuff, I take on a case by case basis; their X32 is a standard for live mixing, these days, but their analog mixers always had reliability issues. Not so, their very sturdy cheap-and-cheerful direct boxes. They seem to be pretty bad at software interfaces, but getting better. Upshot is, if this controller suits your needs, buy it, and buy a better one when it breaks. I wouldn't trust the converters for delicate work like string quartets, but for most purposes, you should be fine. In fact, you may enjoy the transport controls and assignable knobs so much, you'll want to add some faders, but I wouldn't expect a great keybed feel at that price. It just depends on your priorities, I reckon.
