Help! Genre suggestions please
Hi
I hope someone out there can help.
This one is written from the heart but I have no idea where it might fit in.
Is there a genre for this kind of song? If so, what would it be?
Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi Geir, to me this song sounded like (soft) adult contemporary, big 1990'ies ballad style a la Celine Dion, maybe Gloria Estefan with the subtle latin suggestions in the music.

Geir,
I'm getting a strong theatrical vibe from this song. To me it could be in an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical or something more modern, but similar.
Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you for your thoughts John and Kolstad. I see what you both mean, but I still feel very uncertain about how to classify this song.

I could hear this song on a playlist alongside songs by Nora Jones and Alicia Keys.
Hope that helps.

Hey, Geir,
I concur with the consensus: adult contemporary but veering towards theatre. The phrasing and cadences are classic 80's/90's, to my ears, and I can't hear any contemporary artists doing this. Great song, though, and well written.

Thanks for your thoughts Andy, Pete and Nick.
The way I read you all, then this is an adult contemporary with a touch of theatre in it and with roots in the 80's and 90's.
Having little knowledge of genres I thought that adult contemporary is something that is NOW, so does bringing in the 80's and 90's make it less contemporary??
If I should submit this song to an adult contemporary listing is it then likely that I will get a return on the basis of it not being contemporary?? I know this is difficult to answer, but I'm still a little confused, so please help me.
Kolstad mentions that it sounds like a Celin Dion ballad from the 90's.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought that this next song would be more like that:

Am I wrong?

Re: Help! Genre suggestions please
geir, very nice song. i agree with others, adult contemporary, theatrical...
to also work for r&b, just need to change out the march/plod feel with a groove and different instrumentation.
cheers

Re: Help! Genre suggestions please
Thank you Richard, but now I'm really intrigued by your suggestion for this as an R&B.
That thought never crossed my mind.
Any suggestions for working the groove and the instrumentation to make it R&B??
