Taxi collaboration makes the ISC semi's!

Post by robbiejhancock » Fri Mar 06, 2015 11:05 am

I just wanted to share a quick story here that validates some of my journey over the past few years and the strength of this forum and the Taxi community. When I first joined Taxi and the forum I starting posting the material I had in hopes of somehow getting better at the craft of production and learning how to attain "broadcast quality" that kept coming up in posts and on Taxi TV. There of course were many that reached out to offer up advice on the forum here and one stood out to me in particular that when I applied his advice and techniques they really worked and made my mixes so much better. He of course is none other than Mr. Andy Gabrys. Since that time Andy and I have developed a solid working relationship and he has helped me so much in so many ways. I am so thankful for the forum and for meeting Andy and for those of you that are new, have faith in your music and don't be afraid to post your material. It's the only way to get better and it's the best thing I ever did. Shouts out to all of the members that help others on the forum here and in particular those that have helped me with my own mixes. Andy now has a service on his website called ASK ANDY and you can find it on Andy Gabrys Music.

Andy and I have just had one of our collaboration songs that has made it through to the semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition. The song is called "Into The Bright" and out of 18,000 entries it is now in the next round of the top 10%. I am over the moon on this and I am so glad that I had the courage to post my music here on the forum in the beginning and I encourage new members to do the same. You never know who you will meet. If you would like to hear the song it is on my Taxi profile music page below and on my Soundcloud. Thanks to Michael and the Taxi team and to my fellow members. Without this community this song would never have been made.

Great job. All the tracks I listened to had great, clean mixes and superb instrumentation.

Congratulations Robbie! And I want to state that just as Andy has helped Robbie, Robbie has been very helpful to me with his support, encouragement and ongoing advice and moral support, and also for pushing me to finally get into my DAW and record more.! :) This is indeed, a wonderful and very supportive community!

As a new member, can you dome a favor and post a link or two to the threads that helped you improve your mixes? Would love to learn.

Hi Paul,

That's my mix. I post frequently and usually give up a lot of free info on mixing, arranging, production in general (or at least what I know to do, I don't know everything). I would do the same for one of your tunes if you post one.

I also do private consultations - you can PM me if you are interested.

there are lots of threads that contain mix tricks (by me and many others) but they usually start with somebody posting a working version of their tune, and pasting in the brief that they are writing to. it helps to keep things focused and it makes feedback relative. As there are many great awesome productions - but when you are talking about trying to fit a pitch to a brief, it gets more specific, and a lot of great tunes don't necessarily make great pitches.

Here's something for general learning:

tutorial videos - Groove3.com macprovideo.com puremix.net therecordingrevolution.com
books - Mixing Engineer's Handbook - Bobby Owsinski, Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio - Mike Senior.

and everything else that is available on the internet, often for free. Proaudiofiles.com etc. TAXI TV on mondays.

Cheers!

Andy
