Need One Good Channel Strip?

Post by mojobone » Fri Mar 27, 2015 3:28 am

If you need a great hardware channel strip for your critical vocal/instrument tracks, (and who doesn't?) Sweetwater has these on closeout at a very sweet price. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProjectCH

Comes with a free channel of aural excitement, too.

Awesome.

Thanks, Mojo. This is what I've been looking for to DI my guitar into my Interface.

I asked on the TAXI TV episode about a nice pre-amp to get a good guitar sound into my DAW to use my virtual guitar amps and fx... the answer was... use a real guitar amp and mic it...

Next will be a Presonus Tube Pre v2

If you have the space in your rack, this is vastly superior to the Presonus. (and no wall-wart required) They've been building this one since the early days of digital and it was once very highly regarded*; it's still a cut above most prosumer preamps. Of course the model that replaces it will outperform it, but not at this price. :D

* this processor debuted at NAMM 2013, but it's basically the same preamp; clear and punchy

I've got one on the way... maybe I should get another. 8-) (right now it is only $50 more than the Presonus)

Edit: OK, I talked myself into another... the first was going to be lonely.

If you don't have space in your rack, they're also blowing out the Project 500 USB

Hey dudes,

Thanks for the heads up Mojo. I do a lot of guitar stuff too, so I've mulling over a preamp purchase.

This is the interface I use - Motu Audio Express - http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/audio-express

Will putting something like Aphex make a real difference yeah?

If my ship came in I'd go for something like the UA Apollo. Speaking of 'ships', I wonder how much it would cost to get it over here to Ireland...

EDIT: shipping would be $86, so a total of $265 for me. Compared to the equivalent of $520 (exchange rate SUCKS!) over this side of the pond. Whew...very tempting...

Cheers

Didn't you say you had a brother stateside?? Have him ship and insure it from the post office. I sent a synth to Russia
a few years back that way. They'll have a simple customs form to fill out. I don't remember exactly, but wasn't very expensive. I did lose tracking when the package entered Russia, but everything arrived and in good condition! I have to say though, I was very nervous, but very relieved when it arrived, lol!

wow, crazy bargain on that usb 500 rack! that's a cheap route to neve, api and all kinds of cool outboard. wish it was usb 3.0 or thunderbolt though, maybe thats why they sell the stock.

Yes that does seem to be a cheap way to step up to the 500 series!! Especially for someone starting out without a computer interface. Great call Mojo and Kolstad!!

Len, as my spiritual guide on these forums - I'm not at all surprised you've presented this interesting cost-saving option :)

I do indeed have a brother in Minnesota - and he will indeed be receiving an email about this quite shortly.

Thank you once again sir.
