Track For Video Game Needs Feedback

Post by mobster85 » Fri Mar 27, 2015 4:19 pm

Hi folks,
It has been a while since I've posted on here but I am looking for help with this listing and this is my first attempt. Let me know what you think. I am recovering from a heart attack and I just wrote and recorded this about an hour ago. The listing is below. Thanks so much for your help. Is it too jazzy sounding?

ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an A-List Music Supervisor for NON-Exclusive use in an Animated Video Game with a bit of a throwback, old-school graphic look. He’s looking for fun, Up-Tempo Instrumentals, and is pretty open to various types of Electronic Music genres for this game, so please review the songs he’s referenced below to get a feel for the range of styles he’s interested in finding:

“Eple” by Royksopp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf_ieWnu-SE

“Tricky Two” by Royksopp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX1P6RxtA90

“Robot Rock – Soulwax Remix” by Daft Punk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szd_7ZGpkNc

“Swing Bopp” by Der Drittle Raum
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvmOPUTv8Yk

“Bearcat Wiggle” by Dirty Honkers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOLIu4EnD60

“Not Exactly” by deadmau5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTcopp-mpmo

Bangarang (feat. Sirah) by Skrillex Sirah
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR2XilcGYOo

“Beats Knockin (feat. Fly Boi Keno)” by Jack U, Skrillex, Diplo, Fly Boi Keno
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO6EeBCWuzI

“Easy Love” by MSTRKRFT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEfKBEWGQwg

“Work On You” by MSTRKRFT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVAe5F0vto4

“Riot” by The Whip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whjw8Yzhhdg

“Get A Move On!” by Mr. Scruff
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS_CLIF1h-o

Quoting the Music Supervisor: “This is a very entertaining and addictive game that’s using modern cutting-edge animation, graphics and game mechanics that visually harken back to the classic games from the 1980’s. This game features a collection of small, innovative, interactive animated mini-games in the style of Dragon’s Lair, Mario, Wreak-It Ralph, etc. We need Up-Tempo fun and upbeat Pop, Electro Swing, Electro Dance, Dub-Step, EDM, Retro, etc. Instrumentals should be exciting, FUN, upbeat, toe tapping, cool, energetic, and groove oriented. Music needs to be highly evocative, memorable, quirky, dynamic, imaginative and non-repetitive. If the track has a moose call, or a car honk, that's ok too. However, I’m NOT looking for “chiptune.” Instrumentals should have melodies and lead lines, and the occasional non-lyrical vocal chant is okay. Original Music Only – No Covers! TAXI’s members should have fun with this one! It only takes imagination.”

There will be a Non-Exclusive license fee of $3,500, All-Inclusive per Track, for 5 Years. In other words, you’ll still own the copyright and master, and you can license the instrumental or track for media other than video games during the term mentioned above. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine.) Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or music in any way shape or form. Use them as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. You must own or control the Master and Copyright. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Video Game Company! No full critiques. Please submit 1-3 Instrumentals online or by CD, no later than 11:59pm (PDT), on Sunday, March 29th, 2015. TAXI #U150329EI

And here is the track.

Bob,

I want you to understand in this comment that I totally wanted to grab my guitar and try jamming out over your track. However, the general sound seems to be atmospheric and maybe mellow 80's sounding I think. The reference tracks seem to be very active with beats and what is being played. So, although I like your track a LOT, I questiion whether it's in the same vein as the references. By the way, this is a problem I often have myself. See what others say, but I think it just isn't in the genre they seem to want. I'm wrong a lot by the way :). You know what though, when it's a matter of $5, I will often throw something in anyways. Any feedback from the screeners helps focus more and more. Like I said also, I'm often wrong and maybe this fits in a way I'm missing.

Bob P.

I have to underline that I am no expert in this genre before I start. I think your second track fits the overall feel and genre pretty well, my only concern is if the production is close enough to the examples. I listened to 3 of the samples provided in the listing and the kick seems to be very prominent. I wish I could be more helpful. Anyway, it's a very cool track. Best of luck!

Thanks Ron. I appreciate it. I agree that the 2nd track is a better fit. I will work on the kick.

I really like that second track!
It seems like this listing has a pretty wide range of styles given the references... and I think your 2nd song especially has a nice blend of that electro / retro flavor.
Really cool!

I LOVE the breaks that you give an editors. You are probably high on their list. I think this piece is suited for the examples given. Hope you all the best as I too will be giving this a whirl. :D Best to you, D.B.M.
