Miroslav Philharmonik thoughts?

This is on sale at Sam Ash for $149. I have Kontakt 10, but it just has its regular string samples. I can't afford to drop several hundred on upgrades right now, would this be a worthy orchestral addition for the price?

looks like it was Christmas and I got the free sampletank 2.5, and bought some really cheap refills and Miroslav was one.

Sampletank 3.0 was out, so maybe that's why they were cheap.

I bought them to go with a software composition program to work with, bottom line, if they are not the worst they are somewhere tied at the bottom with none that I can think of!! I think they are very old and outdated. That's my opinion.

For $140, the Euro is almost par with the dollar now, thereby making them cheaper, something like

Do you really want a full orchestra? VSL lets you cherrypick.

Depends what you use it for, and how good you are at using it. I use the strings quite a lot,
but don't bring them too far out front, but that's due to my lack of skill and confidence in the sound, not MP.

I have the Miroslav strings, I like the viola for the singer/songwriter stuff I do. I don't know if it's good enough if you're doing orchestral mockups, I suspect not. Here's an example if you're curious, viola comes in at the start of the 2nd verse.

If you mean you have NI Komplete 10, I think the Session Strings are quite good in pop/rock mixes. They are probably a notch up from the Miroslav samples already.

For orchestral, you can do a lot with the samples in NI Kontakt. You just need to learn how to work with them. A notch up for orchestral could be the Vienna Special Edition 1 as Len suggests, which gives you more articulations than the ones in Kontakt, which is the main issue with that package.

Otherwise you'd better save for better samples like Project Sam, Orchestral Tools or Spitfire Audio. If you get something for 150$, and you need to upgrade anyway due to a large record of returns, you just buy negative experiences with time and money. Yes, I have been there..

The Miroslav set is old, but useable. I wouldn't use it stand-alone or as a main string set for orchestral productions. It's also 32-bit only.

If I get the 32 Lives bridge thing (which allows you to run 32 bit plugs on a 64 bit setup) I'll probably use the Miroslav *multis* for various things. They are well designed.

Bottom line, IMHO: they are probably good for blending with other instruments or other strings.

I bought Miroslav when I first started in this business 3.5 years ago. Last spring I upgraded ProTools to version 11, which required every plug in to be 64 bit. So Miroslav went extinct on me, since it's only 32 bit.

And you know what? I don't miss it a bit.

I havent heard this one, but i bought 8dio adagietto strings the other day, and i really like it. It has a warmth and detalied sound,It costs 399$. Its only strings and no solo strings, Im just starting to build up my library. Ive used violin from session strings as lead.
