Emerald Cove ©2015 Robert George BMI
To this day I don’t know what she saw in me
Cos I made ends meet, out on dead end streets
Stealing fast cars and committing burglary
But at night we’d walk beside those summer waves
And our teenage plans, numbered like the sand
As we talked till dawn inside a hidden cave
Out on Emerald Cove
Then she graduated and had to move on
Me… I stuck around, after she left town
For a fancy college up in Oregon
Lotsa nights I’d head down to the lonely seas
Walking on the coast, I felt like a ghost
Floating through a midnight wall of memories
Out by Emerald Cove
Time passed quickly but I never forgot her
How her verdant eyes reflected the water
I’d been breaking in apartments near the shore
And this one nice place, had a crystal vase
Beanie Babies and a desk top by the door
I searched lotsa drawers and looked behind the drapes
Then I lifted up, an old pencil cup
On the bottom was her password on some tape
It said “Emerald Cove”
I slipped back out and I didn’t leave a clue
I had felt the light, in the darkest night
And I prayed that my suspicions might be true
I returned when she was home and I confessed
I said I was sure, that it was her
And that since she left my dreams had been a quest
Back to Emerald Cove
Time passed quickly but I never forgot her
How her verdant eyes reflected the water
Some will choose to think that life is only chance
O but now and then, fate will step in when
Heaven pulls the strings of circumstance
She’s the one thing I have ever been sure of
Now we walk these sands, laughing hand in hand
Cos my soul and future were redeemed by love
And by Emerald Cove
Emerald Cove
