Hip Hop For Artist (dispatch listing)

Post by guitargurumike » Wed May 27, 2015 12:16 pm

Thank you for any helpful critiques, here's the listing:

HIP-HOP INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Major Record Label that’s looking hard to find some great beats for their artists. They’re looking for Mid-Tempo Instrumental Tracks that could be heard on the same playlist as some of today’s top Hip-Hop acts, such as Kid Ink, T.I., Kendrick Lamar, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the below references to get an idea of the vibe they need: “Be Real” by Kid Ink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TvfG6IzBa0 “Project Steps” by T.I: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3garcJgPtco “Swimming Pools” by Kendrick Lamar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0hLBF0rN8 Quoting the source: “Interesting production that pushes boundaries is always welcomed. If your track is chosen, your existing sessions will most likely be built on for the commercial release if they are competitive. There will be other co-writers on this, so if selected be ready to be flexible.” Even though the above references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals that are structured like songs, but with no vocal or lead line. Well-produced Tracks that are multi-layered and have innovative, repetitive motifs will make you stand out for this pitch! Having some instrumentation such as strings, pads, or piano on the top for some flavor could work well for this pitch. Please do not copy or rip off the above referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Your overall production needs to be really competitive for this pitch! All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Label. Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD no later than 11:59PM (PDT) on Friday, May 29th 2015. TAXI #D150529HH

i love the beat but i think it might be a bit too EDM-ish for the listing. maybe if you slowed the BPM down it could work. i'm just trying to imagine Kendrick, TI or Kid Ink rapping over that. nonetheless, your track is mad interesting and does push the boundary, so maybe it could work. best of luck

@chrismugs just what i've been thinking. I quantized the beat back a little in places to make it seem more natural and laid back, and also added some upbeat vocal "ay's" which helped. It's only my third try at hip hop, and you called it, I'm an edm guy.

Thanks for the help,
Michael

I liked the flute/whistle sound (to my ears), whatever that was. Not my genre, but I liked it. Ott
