Looking for any Ala's/Genre/Mix?

Post by cassmcentee » Wed May 27, 2015 5:42 pm

This started out as an acoustic piece that I recorded while camping
Dropped the file into a project and just like those pesky Gremlins (Don't Add Water!!!)
...it turned into an entirely different beast.
Let me know if it rings any bells
I think it is fun and danceable at 144 Bpm

fwiw: those drum solo/fills dug up imagery of the age of rock drummers playin big old dbl bass kits with all the front/bottom heads removed...for that big open sound.
(I'd say "Vanilla Fudge", but who'd remember?! :? so I won't).
Add in all the electronica I hear a hybrid: Iron Butterfly hitches a ride
Back To The Future with Marty McFly! 8-) and I'm sober!
hth, Man; that musta been some campout!!
(ed. voila!! Iron ButterMcFly!!   ) McDaddy!

AHaha Peter! Iron ButterMcFly
I'm happy you dig it!
So that would give this a late 60's vibe... good to know!
So if this were a band, I'd call them "The Mineral Oil Liquid Light Show"
Thank you for your ears! :D

Wow what a hybrid

Haven't heard a riff for quite a while

Savoy Brown used to base their songs on riffs
Although I wouldn't say this sounds like them but hearing that riff reminded me of them

Very interesting Cass

Thanks Don! :D
I have always dug James Brown and how the band would circle a riff till he would shout Hit Me!
Or "Take Me To The Bridge"
It eliminated any possible fatigue of the riff
I may have a few bars too many, though I was thinking the layering makes up for it.
I'll come back to it later and see...

Agreed about the hybrid. Not really an Ala or genre, but I hear (among other things) like a spooky 60/70's mix. But I like em' "weird"!

(Seeing I said spooky and listening again, I'm wondering if I heard the correct song the first time.) Still 60/70's.

Hi bud Nice riff. Some of the snarl goes out of it at about 24 and each time after for only a few notes. Might be what you want? I like how it goes away at 1:40 for a few seconds that breaks it up. Might want to throw a few minatures of those early on.

Crazy but cool sound for sure. It this was broken from the main riff in places and lyrics/melody added, it might be even more interesting.

What kinda drums are those? I like em:)

Keep those creative juices flowing:)

Sincerely

Paul

kinda reminds me of something like Hocus Pocus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGaVUApDVuY

You kick is sounding very electronic compared to the rest of the kit to me - which might be by design.

An interesting hybrid, Cass, and impossible to nail a genre.

The splicing at 1:44 is very '80s – I Feel For You et al. But the guitar is very '70s – almost TV theme tune.

I think it could use a more controlled build; that is, if you plan to put it out there. But maybe it's just for fun.

Good fun either way.

Nick
