Piano Forwards

Post by frankhorvat » Thu Jun 18, 2015 8:21 am

My 1-year Taxi anniversary is next week and still no placements but the parade of forwards continues...4 in the last 2 days. Here's a schmaltzy solo piano piece that Taxi forwarded for 2 different listings.

Thanks to all my Taxi friends for their support!

Hey Frank,

Nice piece. Congrats on the forward.
Would be nice if you include which listing it was for.

Don't get discouraged about not getting placed. Took me a year and a half to get my first placement.
I looked at my first year with TAXI as my training-wheels year. So much to learn,

When it came time for me to renew my one-year subscription, I had a number of fellow musician naysayers telling me I was crazy to renew, TAXI hadn't done anything for me, TAXI was a scam, blah blah blah.
Needless to say, none of them were TAXI members.
My main reason for renewing, other than wanting to get placed, was because TAXI challenges me constantly to compose in genres I probably would have never considered. It has really helped me expand my musical horizons.

And getting my music critiqued by industry pros for $5?
Icing on the cake.

If your music is getting forwarded, it will get placed.
Until then, keep composing.

And good luck.

Henry

Beautiful work Frank. I don't know about schmaltz, I thot it was beautiful.

What piano sample library are you using, if you don't mind me asking? So liquid and juicy !

I am using addictive keys, and it's "almost" perfect with a lot of tweaks, but not exactly my ideal.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and encouraging words!

Henry, I DO really appreciate Taxi and the community that it offers. I'm renewing for 2 years right now. I have gotten many forwards but I am realistic that it takes time. So for me the number one priority right now is to build up my library of cues. Law of averages say that placements will come along sooner than later if I keep writing.

Diane, I use Logic 9 and they have a number of quality piano samples in their internal library from well mown piano makers like Yamaha, Bosendorfer and Steinway. For this particular track, I used the "Steinway Piano Room" setting. I find that I can get away with the "non-real" piano if I improvise my idea and shape it a certain way. For me, the the weighted keys of my Roland Electric piano is extra important in achieving that.

Thankyou Frank, I appreciate your info on the piano, it is absolutely gorgeous. If I had the resources to do it, I'd run out right now and
get a Logic 9 system and a Roland to go with it, just for that sound. Can't beat a Steinway. I notice that Steinberg/Halion sticks with the Yamaha samples, which are "almost" but just lack that little bit of juiciness that I like.

Great data, thankyou so very much :)
Congrats again on your forwards, highly deserved and I hope you get them placed soon. - Diane
