Taxi listings unique to them?

Post by daveydad » Fri Jun 19, 2015 7:39 am

Question... are the Taxi's regular and/or Dispatch listings unique to them or are they also being filled by other sources?

There can always be other sources such as client direct contacts or even Taxi competitors. In most cases, Taxi is just one of many parties supplying music to the client.

**MUCH** greater. That is why you want to not only be good enough to get past Taxi screeners (often no easy feat to itself), but to compete in general with all the great music from lots of reputable sources out there.

And you can be assured that the greater the reward (e.g. a $20K sync deal), the much greater the competition.

While it's true that most listings are funneling music to people using multiple resources, there ARE listings for indie films where TAXI is the primary supplier, or the only vendor. There have been some Indie films where the majority of the music in the film has come from TAXI members. And some of those films end up doing well at festivals like Sundance, then get distribution.

It's funny... sometimes we get calls from indie film producers who are kind of apologetic about only being able to pay a $100 or $200 per song or track sync fee. They're amazed by the quality of what they get from TAXI, and they always come back on future projects. They don't really love library music, and they can't afford to license stuff from labels (even indie labels in many cases), so they reach out to our members and they're blown away by what they get!

Sometimes they use music from people they already know, so the entire film might not be TAXI members, but the majority of it is. While I don't like seeing our members get small sync fees, relationships are built, and many of those relationships seem to last ad infinitum.

AND, the TAXI members keep all of their rights to their music!

best,
Michael
