first-timer RR questions re: classes recommendations...

Post by funsongs » Sun Jun 28, 2015 9:40 am

Greetings, friendly-forums-folks;

This will be my first; and likely 'deer-in-the-headlights' smitten by sights & sounds
:shock: :shock: :o :? :shock: ;
even a bit overwhelmed & star-struck
(yeah, that means by some of YOU!!).

With my current focus being primarily on songwriting - for wherever they might land:
i.e. artist pitch; or possibly using songs and/or cues made from their instrument tracks -
please recommend only those classes & their respective Mentors, from the scheduled ones.

In advance; many, many thanks.

The 2015 schedule isn't out yet, as far as I am aware. There will be ballroom panels on aspects of songwriting and pitching for film/tv, and breakout classes, every day for three days - probably more than 100 classes/panels. Descriptions of each class, panel and mentor for this year will be made available, probably towards the end of Sep or so. I advise people to print off the material when it is posted and go over it carefully to start to plan their Rally days ahead of time.

Thank you, Vikki, for that; just what I needed to learn/know.

they are such sweet little things, I love how they play with each other hehe. I guess they are my favourite bird of all, although I do like birds a lot and enjoy a little amateur birdwatching from my windows.

Heh! Thinking back to my first Rally I would suggest filling your schedule with every class/presentation/panel that appeals to you... then crossing out half of them to save for next year since the networking aspect is equal to the educational value.

Assuming my classes will be on the schedule again this year, it goes without saying ;) :P that you should attend:

Simple Song Structures that Sell
Music Business & Terminology

Seriously, you need to wait until the schedule is released, usually a few weeks before the rally and decide what to attend. There will be a lot of conflicts whereby two (or more) things you want to attend are at the same time. All you can do is make a choice and hopefully catch what you missed the following year. If songwriting is your major focus as you say, there will be PLENTY of great classes on the schedule, I can assure you of that!!

See you there!!

:D Casey

Don't try and do everything all the time, spend some time just hanging out and letting it come to you. And good luck with that... :lol:

You should definitely plan on attending the class:

"Demystifying the Cue"

;-)

Actually, I don't know yet if I'll be lucky enough to be asked by Michael Laskow to present that workshop at this year's Taxi Road Rally (I hope so) but I had a blast last year.
