Desire - film tv blues rock

Post by RonKujawa » Mon Jun 29, 2015 5:32 am

Working on a cowrite with Dean Taylor and Marc Blackwell. It's blues rock aimed at the film tv market. We could use your help on dialing in the mix or really anything that might jump out at you. Thanks in advance for the listen!

VERSE
So strong this taste of need in the night
So fast the race of thoughts I can’t fight
So hard the crush of my heart busting beat
I can’t control the rush, I can't sleep

CHORUS
I can’t control the rage and the fire
I can’t control the pain, I am wired
I play the game, the flame getting higher
I can’t control desire, desire

VERSE
Big searing blaze of dreams on my mind
A burning craze of unsatisfied

CHORUS
I can’t control the rage and the fire
I can’t control the pain, I am wired
I play the game, the flame getting higher
I can’t control desire, desire

BRIDGE
Fever, seductive power, fierce ecstasy
Surging, erupting now, turning agony

CHORUS
I can’t control the rage and the fire
I burn, I take the pain, I am wired
I play the game, the flame getting higher
I can’t control desire

CHORUS
I can’t control the rage and the fire
I take the pain, I am wired
I play the game, the flame getting higher
I can’t control desire, desire, desire

I think you guys nailed this one. Better ears will have to comment on the mix. "I can't control desire" is great tagline.

Really good Ron! :D
I'm having my morning coffee, so I'm listening through simple speakers...
The only thing I'm hearing through them is:
The Right Side Crash cymbal at first sounded too compressed...
Then I heard the volume level of the Left side Crash.
If it were me, I would bring the volume up a hair on the Left Crash and Lower the Right till they get closer in volume
I'm guessing that the right side volume is just loud enough to kick the compressor harder.
Bringing it back some might just stop that.
...Caveat... they are simple speakers I'm listening in so I could be way wrong!!!
I'll give it a go in my monitors later today.

Listened in the monitors and couldn't tell if what I was hearing was due to compression or lower quality MP3???
Where it is most obvious to me is at 0:44/45, listen closely to the tambourine/hi-hat. It phases...
That is where it sounds like an MP3 loss...?

But with equal weight, this song is delicious! :D

Anyone else hearing what I am?

This track sounds great to me. The guitars are thick and juicy, the riff is fantastic, and there is tons of attitude. To Cass's point, I did notice the right crash dipping in volume after he mentioned it. I couldn't say if it was phase. Also, I was losing the end of some of the vocals phrases. Sometimes, it was because of the guitar riff competing (verses) and sometimes the overlap with the next vocal line (chorus). The latter was especially noticeable to me on the word "higher." Love your hook and that line, "A burning craze of unsatisfied." Well done.

Great feedback guys. Thank you! We're going for a current gritty blues rock sound, to get in a very selective top-tier library. How does our song hold up to this song? ... BRMC: https://youtu.be/VfnszUQrobQ

Your mix is way way wider, if you are going towards the feeling of their mix.
Their drums are straight up center, hearing only guitars left an right.
I like your mix better... I like wide stereo! :D

Your Guitar hook is great...really catchy! The lyrics are great as well.

Here are my suggestions: I think the drums are a bit too clean in the chorus...probably because you go to a clean shuffle on the ride. The verses really work, so try to keep that big gritty sound in the chorus.

Other than that I think it's a great tune.

Jeff
