Target Audience of this Song?? - Robot Girl
Hi
I have written a song called Robot Girl.
I imagine it to be (when produced properly) something played on commercial radio stations - no so much indy.
Would the target audience be Tweens/ young women??
I've placed it on my Taxi Homepage - look for Robot Girl
What are peoples thoughts?
I was thinking it should/ could be dressed up in EDM - add some builds etc - find a singer
Regards
Rebecca

Heya, Bec.
Great feel on this song... I think I would move this into the Chillout realm. It really has that feel to me.
What I think you should do is reduce your lyrics by 50%, repeat them a bit, and work on the production for some tasty "ear candy" and development through the piece.
Good start here
All the best

I like this song. its got good groove and lyrics. Its a little dated sounding though. I agree with Russell this has a more laid back feel and would be more the direction of chill. Maybe it can be made into trip hop? you could have an instrumental trip hop version that would probably get more placements.
Vocals are great. no need to change that singer.

Re: Target Audience of this Song?? - Robot Girl
Hi Rebecca, cool song.
Just to clarify I'm not someone with success and experience with placements etc, I'm still in the early stages of tracking and producing my material so take my comments with that in mind.
At first I thought it was too wordy and I always strive to get rid of unnecessary words and phrases and I would recommend that, but young girls do talk very quickly and for me are sometimes hard to understand.
You voice is great but it is indistinct in places, especially the choruses. Sometimes the piano is masking it and the piano in places needs tightening timing wise as does the vocal in places.
It is pretty 'chill' but if you could get the crossover into the tween market it's huge apparently.
Good luck with it and I hope you have an easier time bringing it up to scratch than I seem to with my material.

Re: Target Audience of this Song?? - Robot Girl
Thanks guys... keep it coming.
I never would have thought of chillout/ trip hop as the style for this song. - do you think thesis because of the timbre of the vocals??
Yes its dated being in a funk style - for whatever reason - people seem to still like it??
Interesting points about the lyrics - about them being wordy/ a mouth full.
I don't think I would change this song now - but i'll definitely take on board and keep in mind for the future.
I focussed on creating a story/ imagery and uniqueness.
I thought, in keeping with the imagery of Robot - that electric/ EDM sounds would be best & to get a big vocalist to give the song some attitude.
Calvin Harris style??
I'm surprised people seem not to mind the vocals... and you have't mentioned the pops and crackles!!
Thanks again guys.

Oh, and those pops and crackles!
Just kidding, I'd have to go back and listen again to see what you mean
Nice song Rebecca. Very enjoyable to listen to. Great chords and everything works well together I thought.

Thanks Bob.
There may be some hope for my style yet if I get it right.
Listen to this... ooh! smooth!

I haven't heard something this smooth that's new for a while.
Pharell has a hand in it.
It's borrowed somethings from a couple of different songs - I can't think which songs atm.

I think you could definitely add some EDM effects. I enjoyed your vocal. I did think you need to alter the dynamics a bit, because the volume/production is the same throughout. Some contrast would help the tune, in my opinion. I agree it is very mellow. A pleasant listen! Ott

Hi
very cool groove. A lot of words, which for me, I love but not everyone is me. Maybe a few breaks along the way to allow the music to come thru and take the listener on a little toe tapping "chill" trip. Would like to seem some vocal dynamics just to set the song free from the groove.....Oh, lets not forget the "pops" and "crackles....Couldn't hear them, I was enjoying my Rice Krispies. Voice was smooth, dug it. EDM, could work. Thanks for the track..
