This World Needs a Man (Who Doesn’t Need the World) ©2015 Robert George BMI
People say he comes to town just once a year
Loads his Chevy with supplies and disappears
One day I was hikin’ through some foothill trees
When I heard some growlin’ in the brush and leaves
Out of nowhere came a whistle and a thud
Then I saw a brown bear lyin’ in some mud
Then a big man with a crossbow and a beard
Stepped out from the brush and told me all was clear
He had bear teeth on a band around his hat
Then I thanked him and remember thinkin’ that
This world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world
This world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world
He invited me up to his shack nearby
Where he skinned the bear and hung the pelt to dry
He fed me stew and homemade brew and grabbed his mandolin
Sat out on the porch and sang an old time hymn
O he had a garden and a Guernsey cow
It was paradise and I was thinkin’ how
This world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world
He’s not tossed by shifting winds
Doesn’t follow fads or trends
He knows unless your roots run deep
The fruits of life won't be as sweet
Yes, this world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world
Yeah, it seemed to me he’d left the world behind
Quit the rat race and then found peace of mind
I said, “Sir, this world could use your point of view”
He said, “Son, it may sound strange
But if you try to change this world it changes you
I accept the world and I just leave it be
Cos it damn sure needs a wiser man than me”
Then he opened up his King James to the words in red
Pointed to the verses and he said,
“This world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world
He’s not tossed by shifting winds
Doesn’t follow fads or trends
He knows unless your roots run deep
The fruits of life won't taste as sweet
O this world needs a man
Who doesn’t need the world”
