I’d been visiting all weekend…I was grinnin’ ear to ear
Granpa’s hands were graceful as he made that quarter disappear
He showed both sides of his hands but it had vanished in thin air
And I looked right at him but I couldn’t see it anywhere

It was magic…it was sleight of hand
Like a trick the angels might’ve planned
He said, “It’s as old as time itself
Something distracts you, the coin is taken
While you’re lookin’ somewhere else
The trick is quick…the trick is sly
There’s more to it than meets the eye”

We played catch and took a short break in the middle of the day
I had only nodded off a moment when he slipped away
I felt his hands and face but his breath had vanished in thin air
Though I looked him in the eyes I couldn’t see him anywhere

It was magic…it was sleight of hand
