Mix comments for Post-Rock track?
Hey dudes n' dudettes,
I'm working on some post-rock stuff. Wondering how this mix sounds and if there's anything bothering your ears?
Its such a nice genre to be composing in I must say.
Here she is - called Snowcapped Walk - https://soundcloud.com/stasissounds/sno ... th/s-FKRZr
Thanks for any input

Very nice Track. Way to go! The only think I heard that bothered me was when the drums first come in there is a bongo or something that plays on the "&" after beats 1 and 3. It sounds a little cheesy. Maybe try a more organic hit there.

Re: Mix comments for Post-Rock track?
Hi Gar
This is really cool! I'm going to comment mostly on the drums - everything else sounds good to me.
2 main issues for me with the drums - 1) Not enough contrast mix-wise between the two sections, and 2) The "big" beat sounds too squished/compressed to my ears.
What I would suggest is this: pan the "small" beat (the one that comes in around 0:50) really hard to one side, maybe even 100%. Maybe distort it a bit - keep it pretty thin eq-wise, and keep the volume to where it still cuts through (current volume is pretty good in that regard).
Then, when the "big" beat comes in (1:15 or so?), make it sound bigger by comparison. A little less squished, panned to the center, louder, and plenty of low end on the kick.
Even if you don't end up liking the panning thing, I'd still de-squish the drums and turn them up a bit. Look forward to hearing how this progresses, great stuff!

Re: Mix comments for Post-Rock track?
Heya Bob,
Thanks for listening and your pointers - I took them on board after I went back with fresh ears.
The changes are subtle enough - but an improvement (I hope)
This is the version I've sent off.

Thank you sir!

I was really looking for hearing this. Soundcloud didn't have it available though. I've been a little scarce and have been trying to spend some time here today. I really loved the song you did with Rebekah!
It worked later in the day. VERY VERY NICE Gareth!
