Hi Guys
I had a return on a song a while ago from a screener who I personally adore lol... no seriously I do. Always so helpful.
Anyway, the listing was for Moody Electro based singer/songwriter songs with female vocals, and the screener said we should try to add a more contemporary feel to the production and the vocal delivery. Right now we have a temporary mix up on our taxi page. So before we finalize it and do a final mix I wanted to ask for help with that comment.
I really don't understand what a more "contemporary vocal delivery" would be... and when he's talking about production is he meaning the actual music? or the mix?
I'd be really grateful for your thoughts. The song is called Delerium, http://taxi.com/lisakmp

Re: A little help...
it might be helpful if you post the text from the listing including any a la tracks they mentioned.
What the screener mentioned is pretty common, but it depends really what they were hoping to hear (the a la tracks) as they always consider the submissions from that standpoint.
IMO - if they are thinking of vocal delivery and production - they are considering every sound in the song, not just the mix. But others may see it differently. You can do a screaming hot, bright mix with almost any arrangement, but it may not be contemporary if there are certain sounds in there.

Thanks Andy.... good point, here is the listing...
U150618ES
MOODY, ELECTRO-BASED SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Female Vocals are needed for NON-Exclusive placements by the Music Supervisor of a Hit TV Series. Please submit Mid-Tempo Songs that could be found on the same playlist as acts like Sarah Jaffe, Uh Huh Her, Zola Jesus, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the following references to get yourself in the general ballpark of what they need: “Ride It Out” by Sarah Jaffe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onY95baM8h0 “Another Case” by Uh Huh Her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQAJa1GcglM “Lawless” by Zola Jesus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c0A-0DQJD4 Give them hip, current Songs that sound like an authentic Indie act, with some cool creative electro elements underneath a deeply emotional vocal performance. Your submissions can have a bit of an Indie Rock edge, but should be stylistically consistent with the ballpark of the references. Lyric themes can vary, but should be universal enough to work for various types of scenes and storylines.

Re: A little help...
Hi there Lisa,
In this context, vocal delivery is all about phrasing.
Your melody as currently delivered sounds very Deborah Harry to my ears.
I dig it, but contemporary phrasing has more of a stuttered sycopation to it.
Listen to Florence+The Machine, Katy Perry ... (Yes, really.)
If I were you, I'd make some document- an iTunes playlist, a burned CD, a hand-written list, a bunch of
DVR recordings- that was your go-to for current acts that would be the sort to whom you'd pitch.
I say write the way you write, then re-write with the scent of your intended target (artist, listing ... whatever)
in your nostrils.
Great job, thus far!!
All the best to you.

Re: A little help...
I don't mind Debbie Harry .... Yes in retrospect you are probably right about the phrasing. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, I do appreciate it!
