Mascara Moon ©2015 Robert George BMI

Well, they parked out by the old creek
Their desires cloaked in midnight mist
It was by the rippling stream,
That their dark, illicit dreams,
And their passion and their steam
Came together in a wet forbidden kiss

But was that a shadow watching from across the creek
As the salty sweat of lust ran down the woman’s cheek

Dark clouds painted on a silver eye
Wicked plans and sin were in the air
On a humid night in June
Few know better than the watchful sky
Sin will do what righteousness won’t dare
‘neath a high mascara moon

Then they walked back to the old creek
And his arm was like a snake around her waist
Gunshots echoed through the hills,
Scaring owls and whippoorwills,
Then they dropped and lay there still
On a patch of daisies in a dark and cold embrace

And was that a shadow running back across the creek
As the blood and tears of death ran down the woman’s cheek

Dark clouds painted on a silver eye
Wicked plans and sin were in the air
On a hazy night in June
Few know better than the watchful sky
Sin will do what righteousness won’t dare
‘neath a high mascara moon

Well, they had their funerals that weekend
And the preachers both looked sad and pale
And the widower wore black Armani
And the widow wore a long, black veil
But a cop was watching from a distance
And a deep suspicion gnawed at him
When the sun shined through that widow’s veil
He would swear that he could see her grin

Well, they parked out by the old creek
Their desires cloaked in midnight mist
It was by the rippling stream,
That their dark, illicit dreams,
And their passion and their scheme
Came together in a wet forbidden kiss

But was that a shadow watching from across the creek
As the salty sweat of lust ran down the woman’s cheek

Dark clouds painted on a silver eye
Wicked plans and sin were in the air
On a Georgia night in June
Few know better than the watchful sky
Sin will do what righteousness won’t dare
‘neath a high mascara moon
