Well, I’ve slept in ragged bedrolls
Old motels in mining towns
Then I’m right back on the highway
When the sun comes shining down

I draw from the well of liberty and drive until
Midnight knits a haunted scarf of mist around the hills

Then sometimes I curl up in my van
With a pint of bourbon in my hand
Mister, it don’t matter where I stay
Whisky will make sure I drift away
Where dreams are welcome

When I’m flippin’ through the stations
Rolling down another road
Lookin’ for some golden oldies
And I hit the motherlode

And when moonlight paves a crooked path across a lake
Music knows that it’s the only path my dreams will take

Sometimes I’ll just curl up in my seat
When I hear them play that Memphis beat
All my troubles slowly disappear
Soon I’m sailing back across the years
Where dreams are welcome

I’ve learned one thing on this journey
That the Good Lord’s given me

I think back on ladies that I’ve known
I can’t give them satin, silk or lace
