I think Happy Birthday is a song that should be considered a "traditional." It is part of our culture, something that virtually every family sings.

I don't think there is any argument that it is traditional.

Many would consider "The Christmas Song" or "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" traditional.

I'm not really adamant or militant about this. I just think that the arguments that I'm hearing seem to
sound mostly like, "we want it, so we're gonna take it."

I wish we were having this discussion around a big table with some drink and salty munchables.

"We want it, so we're gonna take it", and then we're gonna call it private property so no one can take it from us, sounds like what the early settlers did to the Indians.

I believe you might be thinking "eminent domain", I don't think that is what they were arguing though in the HB case. The argument also didn't seem to be about them waiting 40 years to start collecting either. We'll never know how many competing HB songs were shut out because they did collect royalties. :? On a smaller scale of "familiarity leads to favorability", used to be the radio model, where the listener listened for "free", and then bought records. Or the drug dealer that gave away free samples until you were hooked.

There are plenty who want to see the demise of Intellectual Property. Copy-write, Patents and Trademarks.

I am just glad I am as old as I am. Because what is happening in this Country and Worldwide is becoming Unreal and Unbearable. And the more of a mess that gets created by Our Government,
BOTH sides Republican (I use that term loosely) and Democrat/Communist/Socialist the harder (more impossible) it will be to Unravel.

Hey Mojo,
Is there a Political Forum that you know of I could go to to comment on that statement?

I think this thread is fine for your opinions on the matter.
I mean, it;s the outgrowth of a copyright matter.
The thread didn't start out as overtly political, but if that's where the discussion goes ... well ...?

If you mention Eminent Domain that IS political. I just think sometimes things tend to veer of in another direction and things start to wander away from the Topic at hand. I just don't wast to make comments that may Piss someone off when all I want to do is impart information or express my opinion.

That said, watch this Video. If You Dare!
