These listings are too close to be a coincidence

Post by Piewackit1 » Wed Sep 23, 2015 7:01 pm

Take a look at these two listings. I got a forward for the first one in August. What are the chances the second listings is not the same library? Should I submit the same song I got the forward for in August? Suggestions?

New Listing:

New Listing BLUES-inspired ALT ROCK SONGS with Male Vocals are needed by a 5-Star Music Licensing Company that pays upfront Buy Out Fees for Publishing and Master Rights. Give them gritty, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that could be found on the same rockin' playlist as acts like The Black Keys, The Arcs, Dan Auerbach, etc., etc., etc. Please submit great songs that have some obvious Blues influence, or inspiration, with an overall hip quality in terms of structure, melodies, and lyrics. Be sure your songs have plenty of ear-catching hooks throughout, with a chorus that really shines. Lyric themes can vary, but should be something typically heard in the genre. Universal lyrics are needed for this pitch, so please avoid references to specific names, places, dates, times, brands, and profanity. Do not copy or rip off the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE Buy Out Deal. They buy the Copyright and Master recording rights for $300 to $500 per song. You get 100% of the writer's share, and make performance income on the back end from your PRO. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's Share, and will split any sync fees and mechanical royalties 50/50 with you. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you pitch for this opportunity is NOT already signed to any other Libraries or Catalogs. You must own or control the Master and Copyright to pitch for this. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Company - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. TAXI #Y151014AR

If you call TAXI and ask them if it is for the same client, they will tell you. Let them know the reason you are asking is because you don't want to submit something that you've already had forwarded to that client. They won't tell you the company name, but they will confirm if it is (or is not) the same company.

Okay - so here's a dumb-Newbie follow-up question
(because something similar happened recently with 3 listings for country songs):
If it's the same company, but the listing number identifies it as a separate and/or additional request,
does that necessarily lean towards a particular artist's project (i.e. an album) is in need of more than one song to fill their contractual needs?
Or - possibly - that producer has a stable of similar artists, doing similar styles/genre?

Just curious. 8-)

I'm not really sure what your are asking. I don't know if the listing numbers would indicate that these two listings are from the same company or a part of the listing number is assigned to a particular company to identify it.

Okay - let me try to re-phrase the question:

It's the same company - but the listing numbers are different.
Is that simply because it's a re-posting of the same opportunity and need?
OR - is that same company soliciting a 2nd song (or more)?
Whether it be for one artist in need of several to complete a project
OR - the company is representing several artists in the similar genre, with similar needs & goals.

Does that make the cloudy any clearer?
Curiouser and curiouser. :? 8-)

I think it could be any of those scenarios. It would be better if Taxi stated that in the listings themselves....like this company has received some songs already and needs additional for X Y and Z. I think I have seen them do that in past listings.

They usually do. They probably just overlooked this one.

The listing number is just the date of the deadline plus a category code, so each time they
put out the fishing pole, the deadline date will be different and the listing number will be different.

If you were selling a lawnmower on Craig's list and your listing expired. Your new post would be a completely different
post, regardless to the fact that it's the same item or seller.

This is happening now I believe with 2 Chillwave listing. One I submitted to on 12/19 and now another up with the deadline of 1/9. If the listings weren't so similar, I'd resubmit but since the 1st request is still pending, don't want to waste my time getting the same material returned twice.

Interesting that the descriptions are so similar yet have totally different a-la's. As mentioned, would be nice if they told us not to resubmit if same source as I've also seen done. On the other hand, maybe one reviewer from one listing will like a submission and another won't?

Here's the requests for comparison:
-------------------------------------------------
12/19-CHILLWAVE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a great NON-Exclusive Boutique Music Library that’s aggressively expanding its catalog. They’re searching hard to find believable, authentic sounding, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic ballpark of great acts like Washed Out, Blackbird Blackbird, Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, etc., etc., etc. Please submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that deliver a hip, relaxing, and dreamy vibe. Give them Cues with lush synth pads, relatively simple grooves, and great melodic lines that are light and airy. Make your piece interesting by adding and subtracting layers of instrumentation as your Cue progresses. Easy edit points and Non-Faded/Buttoned/Stinger endings will work best for this pitch. Your submissions should be 2-3 Minutes long. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This Publisher offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal. Writers/composers will also get a percentage of any applicable sync fees, which will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. You must own or control your master and copyright to submit to this pitch. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Saturday, December 19, 2015. TAXI #Y151219CW

-----------------------------------

1/9-CHILLWAVE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed for a hip, NON-Exclusive Boutique Music Library that’s actively beefing up their catalog for 2016. They’re looking hard to find believable, mood-setting Down-to-Mid-Tempo Instrumental Cues that could be found on the same playlist as artists like Small Black, Craft Spells, Poolside, Keep Shelly In Athens, etc., etc., etc. Take a careful listen to the references below to get in the specific vibe they’re looking for:

“Canoe” by Small Black: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD_JtYnd6tc

“Nausea” by Craft Spells: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1TYsJFkoUo

“Slow Down” by Poolside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sC1ZolAePw

“Fractals” by Keep Shelly In Athens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO33A2tihtA

Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch. Please submit dreamy, relaxing, laidback Instrumental Cues that combine lush synth pads, cool drum grooves, and relatively simple melodic lines to create a believable, hipster-friendly vibe. Structure your cue around a compelling melodic theme, while adding and subtracting layers of instrumentation and electronic elements to keep your submissions from sounding repetitive or linear. Imagine the music you’d hear while sitting poolside at trendy hotel. That’s what they’re looking for!

Easy edit points and Non-faded endings will work best for this pitch. Your Instrumentals should be at least 2 to 3 minutes in length. Do not copy or rip off the referenced artists or music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe. Also, please avoid any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

They offer a NON-EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal. Writers will also get a percentage of any applicable sync fees, which will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. You must own or control your master and copyright to submit to this pitch. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD no later than 11:59 PM (PST), on Saturday, January 9th, 2016. TAXI #U160109CW

Ken
