I recently submitted "I'll Always Regret" to a listing for traditional country songs (Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, etc) but it was returned because of the lyrics, with the following suggestions: "The images in the first verse are definitely a good fundamental country picture, but could perhaps be expanded with more ingenuity in order to put a fresh spin on this kind of scenario".
I was wondering how the lyrics could be changed to make them sound more fresh and creative? Any suggestions would be most welcome! The lyrics can be seen below and the song is on my Taxi site:

I'll Always Regret
I would turn back the clock, if only I could, cause you stole my heart
You packed up your suitcase, walked out the door, and drove off in your car
Thought I won your love, won over your heart, but these things I cannot find
Then you pass me on by, see you with a new guy, and I just want to cry
You left me alone, you left me at home, and now I just wanna forget
I see you around, with the new guy you found, and its you I’ll always regret
When word got around, that you found someone else, who drives a fancy car
I was feeling so angry, my road was a dead end, my dreams forever scarred
Wish I could forget you, never have found you, wish I could take back my heart
I would find someone, who would never leave me, and she’d be in my arms
You left me alone, you left me at home, and now I just wanna forget
I see you around, with the new guy you found, and its you I’ll always regret
