I love threads like this. I'm not in danger of recording live horns any time soon but you can learn so much just browsing this forum over coffee. Better than the morning papers

Nice, goodluck man!
I think recording horns so hard.
The musicians have to be able to play super tight.
If they aren't used to a studio setting they need a lot of time to get rid of their 'stage sound'.
Tightness in horns concerns so many factors.
-start at the same time
-end at the same time
-crescendo's and swells at the same time
-vibratos in the same tempo
-etc

Yeah.. do tell!
good horn players can walk into a session and get the job done fairly quickly, assuming one key thing: Have charts. There isn't much more frustrating for a horn player than walking into a session where the engineer or songwriter has no charts and sings you what they want you to play. It triples the amount of time needed to get everything done.

Good horn players are psychic; they don't reaaly need charts, they're just there to make 'em play louder.
