It was out on Frontage Road along some shot gun shacks
A speeding SUV with windows tinted black
Well, that trooper stomped the gas and hit the light
Pulled him over and approached him from the side

A hobo heard what sounded like three or four pops
A rookie murdered on a routine traffic stop

Well, that killer made the interstate and got away
And they held the trooper’s funeral on Saturday
It was right at midnight on a lonely avenue
When he saw that red light in his SUV’s rearview

It was just around the corner from his chop shop
And it wasn’t just a routine traffic stop

Trash collector’s found him in the morning light,
Sittin’ stiff behind the wheel and chalky white
As if he’d been scared to death
Two days later joggers found a Ford King-cab,
It was just a stone’s throw from a trailer lab
With a toolbox full of coke and meth

Whispers said the killer vigilante was a cop
And he staged it on a routine traffic stop

They say crime is down in town and on the interstate
Streets are safer and the locals ain’t been movin’ weight
Cartels seized an opportunity in border towns
Bribes and murders paved the way to bring in ninety pounds

Well, they found that Honda near a Brownsville iHop
On the road to Hades from a routine traffic stop

And a hobo watchin’ from his cardboard bed
Swore that cop had at least three holes in his head…
