Kontakt not behaving... sometimes.

Post by jazzstan » Mon May 02, 2016 10:01 pm

Sometimes one or more of my Kontakt 5 player (version3) instrumetns won't play. If I restart the DAW (Cakewalk Sonar)... or reload the particular instrument, I'm ok... for a while. Usually happens when I have other VIs (omnisphere, nexus, z3ta, AD keys) installed. Any clues?

I would say too many instruments opened at once, cpu overload...Not enough memory...

If the same setup worked before, check the HDD for fragmentation.

Are all the samples loaded on one physical Hdd? If you have more than one hdd, I like to balance the load out a little by putting larger sample libraries that I might likely use in the same project on a different hdd.

I've had that happen, I think. Sometimes some of the tracks won't play.. sometimes it seems like a lost MIDI connection that gets corrected if I close and reopen the project. Sometimes It seems like my external drive has gone to sleep and I need to re-establish connection by changing to a different track and playing something, then going back to the track that was not playing. It's annoying, but not frequent for me.

Cass... I'm pretty sure I tried it...but the vid was very helpful in understanding what it does (and how to use it). With that info, I'll give it another shot. Thx!

I'm with you Stan! :D
There are times (working in Cubase Pro) that I have to save my project and restart it because...
...an instrument in Kontakt will start acting up, changing it's own tone, or continue playing after I've hit STOP.
So at times it can get buggy, but not that often...
Good Luck!!!

I've had the same trouble with Session Horns Pro; it stops playing back after a while, sometimes I get stuck notes. Reloading the instrument usually fixes it. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue; I've got a dozen multi-threaded cores and 40G of RAM, and only one instance of SHP running, along with Addictive 2 and Keys. Admittedly, I'm operating at very low latencies; Tracktion has a quirk in that you can adjust the buffer size separately for sampled instruments, as opposed to audio-I may fiddle with that.

i hope this isnt too silly a suggestion but is your kontakt up to date? You mentioned "version 3". the latest version is 5.5.2.

i've found in the past when weird things would happen with a vsti, there's usually an update that will fix it.
