Ghost-hunting underscore forwards!

Post by daveydad » Tue May 24, 2016 4:32 pm

Jeepers creepers! Got 2 out of 3 for this one! Cues with screener's comments.

Brief Glimpse: https://soundcloud.com/davidhollandsworth/brief-glimpse "Nice tone set with this one. Nice sonic landscape created here with great subtleties like the female voice"

Isolated: https://soundcloud.com/davidhollandsworth/isolated "Nice job again. Really effective writing for this genre"

Midnight Fog was returned for the following reasons: https://soundcloud.com/davidhollandsworth/midnight-fog "Piano writing is good, and the pad is great. We're not really in the 'ghost hunter' genre with the piano part, which seems a bit anachronistic with the opening pad. The pad feels creepy, the piano not nearly so much."

SIMPLE GHOST-HUNTING Style UNDERSCORE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a busy and extremely active, Non-Exclusive Music Library that’s actively building multiple new Instrumental Catalogs. They’re hunting (yes, pun intended) for suspenseful, tension-filled, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Underscore Cues that could work well for shows like (but not limited to) Paranormal State, A Haunting, Ghost Hunters International, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the music used in these shows to give yourself a solid idea of the sound they’re after: Paranormal State (3:06 to 4:10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frp0iM-lLTg A Haunting (4:00 to 5:15): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFk3hm9tjQI Ghost Hunters International (6:41 to 7:20): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxbvTcz8PTI Please submit eerie, ominous, spine-tingling Underscore Cues that give the audience a feeling of unsettling anticipation. Your submissions should focus on a sparse central melodic idea, while weaving layers of various instrumentation and dynamic elements in and out to keep your Cues moving forward, and sonically engaging. You’d be smart to start out fairly sparse, while building tension until your Cue gets to a climactic finish without becoming too bombastic or intense. Simplicity is key! Imagine the type of music you’d hear while a lead investigator walks through a dark attic searching for any signs of paranormal activity. That’s what they need! All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long, with a crescendo that leads to a buttoned/stinger ending. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine). This Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 Deal. You’ll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer’s share. The Publisher will get 50% of applicable sync fees and 100% of the Publisher’s Share on the version they pitch. You’ll keep 100% of the original copyright. You must own or control the Master and Copyright to submit to this pitch. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by TAXI - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Monday, May 16th, 2016. TAXI #U160515GH

Congrats David on the forwards,
I couldn't listen to "Brief Glimpse". For some reason it was giving me a broken link page..
Isolated sounds good. If I may, the sFx were a bit over the top
Midnight, IMO, could perfectly work for a tension based..
Awesome job and congrats again,
edmond redd

Brief Glimpse can be listened to on my Taxi page. Yeah, I kind of submitted Isolated half expecting it to get returned for too much FX. Ya never know!

Nice cues, David! I especially love "Isolated," with all that ambient ectoplasm and the little gleams that shadow the first piano theme. If it's not a trade secret, I'm wondering what basic piano you're using on that one. You nail that cinematic creepy piano really well.

The piano for that was a highly modified sample in Izotope called Iris Carbon.

Thanks for sharing that, David. Great piano sounds are a never-ending quest for me. I haven't yet delved into Iris but it looks pretty deep.
