Yes. Sorry. To elaborate a bit further: since learning the ins and outs of the analog-esque plugin host called nebula....i've been using analog mixing techniques/gain staging to hit the plugin the way it needs...in the process over many years its REALLY helped me with my mixes with or without nebula in the chain. Since I didn't come from an analog background I had to admit I didn't understand the concept of mixing at lower volumes. I use analog metering to ensure that 0dbVU in my DAW is -18dbFS on all tracks. Then the mix can begin. Also with using the K-meter on my 2buss - it has helped me greatly with my masters. If I keep the volume in line with the k-meter, by the time I hit mastering - I'm only shaving off barely 1-2db and I still get great loudness and dynamics.

^^^^This right here is another helpful tip, calibrating your monitor system. I theenk you can still find complete instructions on how to do that at http://digido.com. (you'll need a decibel meter, they run about $50-$80) If you don't calibrate your monitors, you can't really have any idea what your levels are, a recipe for eventual disaster, and yeah, it can end up making your tracks harder to mix, when you don't know if you're leaving enough headroom.

Actually you can get a nearly free SPL meter for your iPhone. They are very close. I have an analogue SPL meter as well.

Too right, Andy; there are some good audio analysis packages available, as well-I'm just not very phone-centric, as some of you know.

And here I am occupying my time at the Subaru dealership getting oil changed and tires rotated - typing on my phone.

Anyone see that meme about how the "zombie apocalypse is real" and it shows a bunch of people walking down the street in line all looking at their phone screens?

It's kinda like that in here right now at the dealership - except I was keen-ing out reading TapeOp magazine

I totally judge people all the time for staring at their phones and then I realize I'm staring at my phone...

If your Subaru isn't a Forester, there's a slim chance I mighta helped build it, and you're welcome. I'd own one myself, if they were sized to fit me.

Both are Outbacks. A 2010 and a 2011. The 2010 has the crafted in Indiana sticker in the window. The 2011 has aftermarket tint so they have removed the sticker.

I worked at the plant as a QC inspector, back in the early aughts, and I'm a fan of the product; I've owned two Subarus, though not at the same time.
