Are CDs Still the Standard format at the Rally?

Post by jlizerbram » Sat May 28, 2016 11:42 am

Hi all,

It's been 5 years since I've attended a Road Rally. Last time I was there in 2011, CDs were still the main format of sharing music, especially at the one-on-one mentoring sessions. Has this changed? Or is there a more updated format, such as mp3s on USB key or a smartphone? Just thought to ask now that we're in the age of Pandora, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Shazam, etc!

Thanks,

-Jeff

Yep, CDs are still definitely the way to go. Safer (no virus threat), they fit in a stack, the mentors listen on boomboxes, they are in someone's hand (vs remembering to go on-line later)... etc.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember someone coming all the way from the Nordic States with a CD of MP3s...
...and they wouldn't play in the Boom Boxes. That person missed out on opportunities...

Thanks - yeah, from your answers, it seems CD's won't be going away anytime soon, at least in the music supervisor's realm. For a consumer, I haven't bought a CD in quite a while! Time to dust off my CD printer and rev up the CD burner! ;)

Just to clarify. Make sure you CD is an *** AUDIO CD ***, not a data CD. A data CD is a collection of music files such as .wav, .mp3, etc. An AUDIO CD is a specific format for play on all CD players.

When you burn an AUDIO CD, the format is always automatically converted to 16/44.1K which is CD standard. Just make sure that the SOURCE file you load to your CD burner program as AT LEAST 16/44.1K .wav or .aif, not mp3.

I'll be handing out USB drives as part of my plot to take over the music industry. :)
