He’s been comin’ here for weeks
Drinkin’ in that corner booth
Longneck bottles of regret
Chasin’ amber shots of truth

Is it problems on the job
Or just loneliness
Though some here might suspect
They can only guess

But the whiskey knows why
It sees into his soul
Cos he feels like half a man
And it helps him feel whole
Though some say he’s got hist’ry
And a woman was involved
His sadness is a myst’ry
No one here can solve
And I can’t deny
It’s not our place to try
But he wipes teardrops on his sleeve
And I believe
The whiskey knows why

His stares through his empty glass
At dreams that once were
Though the past is killing him
He thinks poison is the cure

He just pours himself one more
And hides behind a mask
But things his mask can’t face
No one has a mind ta ask
