Please review this and tell me if it's the right genre

Post by nlamont » Fri Jun 17, 2016 9:50 am

Hi

I made the track below after watching the Taxi TV show on hiphop and EDM. I figured I was only going to learn by doing. It's come out a bit, maybe, softer or more laidback than I was expecting. So I wonder if it would really fit opportunities that ask for hiphop instrumentals. If not, what sort of genre would it fit?

If I were to change it for hiphop what's the main thing I'd need to change?

Thanks very much in advance.

Love it. Funky, quirky. Not really EDM to me. (Too spare)
but an aces usable cue. You might add hi-hat here and there, 16ths.

And come back after the drop that currently ends the track.

Great stuff!

Thanks. I was afraid it would be too long if I added more but, listening back to it after a while, I think I could add another stretch and enhance it. I'll get onto it next week.

Thanks for listening.

Cool sounding track!

This sounds like a "retro" or even straight out of the 80's que for me.
So it might fight
80's, electronica, 80's hip hop, classic hip-hop, synth-pop, early 90's electronica a la trent reznor (although it's not quite dark enough).

Great work.
VERY well produced sounds like it could be salable for sure!

Best of luck with it!
Nick

Thanks very much, Nick, especially for the list of genre words, I'm quite lost with all those. That's really helpful. I'm glad you liked the production. As well as that Taxi TV episode I've learned a lot from the Recording Revolution site http://therecordingrevolution.com/

Hi
If you're still around, I've updated the track with the suggestions from here, namely some hihats and a new section after the previous drop that ups the vibe a little.

Thanks again for all your help.
