1st royalties ever! Thank you Taxi!

Post by robbiejhancock » Wed Jun 22, 2016 2:00 pm

I just received my 1st ever royalty payment ever! YES!

It was for a 35 second piece of music, a tension cue and collaboration with Andy Gabrys that landed and was aired back in December of 2015 on a special report episode of VICE on HBO! The episode has been aired 29 times so far including HBO, HBO Latino, HBO Plus and HBO Signature. This one came in through a publisher that Andy and I struck a deal with from a Taxi Dispatch forward! BAM! Here is our cue https://soundcloud.com/robbiehancockmusic/bated-breath

So I am just so happy that something that I thought was this magical mythical thing I have known about my whole life is actually real! LOL It's true people, Taxi works! It is not an easy road and not for the faint of heart but if you work hard and want ti badly enough anything is possible. I am in year 4 now as a Taxi member and I can narrow it down to a few things that really helped make this happen. For the new members struggling to figure everything out like I did, I want to give back and I hope the following helps to light up those bulbs of creativity so you can find your way.

1. The Taxi forum - This place is where I started searching for answers, asking questions and posting my music in hope that someone would listen and give me feedback. It was really intimidating at first but I did it anyway. It worked for me as this is where I met so many of my friends and mentors, including Andy Gabrys who i met here and connected with early on and has been prolific in getting me this far and is my collaborator on this cue. Andy has so great tutorials that you can check out too. If you don't know just ask Andy :) http://andygabrys.com/ask-andy/

2. Write, submit, forget, repeat - Words of the wise men and women of this community. Think about each word and let them sink in as you create. You won't regret it.

3. Taxi TV - How many businesses or owners do you know that lead from the top on down? Openly sharing stories with industry guests to help you succeed? Hundreds of back episodes are taped and waiting for you to watch that have all the answers to your questions. I watched all of them. Tune in live Monday's @ 4pm PST to watch live. Join your fellow members in the chat.

4. The Taxi Road Rally - Every November there is a convention in Los Angeles in which the ticket is FREE + a guest for Taxi members where you can shake hands with your fellow members and meet successful music industry professionals that might change your life. There are tons of classes and panels and I have never been to a better convention. I have made deals through meeting members at the rally and through publishers and library owners too. Seriously it's awesome! The hardest thing I ever did was get on that plane by myself that first year and be brave enough to put my music in front of the people that could change my life! Talk about extra antiperspirant in my suitcase!!! Sheesh! lol. Still, it was the best thing I ever did.

5. You. You are the only person that can stop you from doing any of these things. So battle that resistance and eliminate the distractions and procrastination. More importantly read this book https://www.amazon.com/Do-Work-Overcome ... 1936891379 or this one https://www.amazon.ca/Demystifying-Cue- ... B00MR2MPBG or this one or any of these http://www.amazon.com/Robin-Frederick/e/B002BOC46Q A HUGE thanks to Robin Frederick for helping my songs flow through these incredible books.

I am sure there are lots of books out there that I haven't read yet so please leave a comment with your favorites that have helped you so far.

This supportive community alone is worth so much and I hope that I can give back as much as I can to help others along the way as has been done for me. it is hope and faith that keep me pushing forward. Thank you Michael for creating and leading such an amazing community of musicians, engineers, producers, artists, songwriters and composers. Taxi Rocks! Onward!
