Question on Forwards

Post by MJGreen » Mon Jun 27, 2016 4:50 pm

Hello all. I've been a Taxi member for a while now and have had instrumental cues forwarded in the past. The certificates for each of those forwards listed the actual name of the company the piece was forwarded to. I had two forwards this week for two different listings and one certificate says it was forwarded to "Music Library" and the other to "Music Publisher". Did Taxi stop giving the name of the company/library or do some companies prefer to remain anonymous? Just curious because I haven't encountered that before. Thanks.

Yes, all my F's are like that too. I think there were too many problems with forwarded parties contacting the company to see if they were interested, instead of waiting for the call that would be made if they were. It's sad for the rest of us, I really liked knowing where my music was pitched :/

If this is the case, going forward and it applies to all forwards/listings, I'm going to have to re-evaluate my membership. I'm more than satisfied with the community, and the Rally is beyond awesome, but more than half the value in submitting is in hopefully learning where my music is going. It's pretty much academic, in my case, since I seldom submit, but this is very disappointing.

I hear ya Mojo... But...
The main possibility could be... (as Hummingbird stated)
to keep people from calling the library/publisher due to a forward instead of waiting for the library/publisher to make the first contact.
Just guessing
But that makes perfect sense to me

I figured that was probably the case, but I agree with you Hummingbird, it is disappointing. I always appreciate knowing where my music is being forwarded. Thanks for responding everyone.

Without knowing for sure, I would venture to guess that Taxi leaves this up to the individual library or person who ran the listing.

I still do get some certificates that include the name of the company, but far more that have a generic "music library" or "music supervisor" or something equally vague. But since I do occasionally get an actual library name, it makes me think this is not Taxi's new policy, but rather the choice of the person running the listing.

I imagine if I were the library and ran a listing, I might opt out of having my library name on the forward certificate, as that would prevent members from emailing & calling and generally hounding me after the forward.

This would be a great question for an "Ask Michael Anything" episode of Taxi TV though... as I'm just guessing here.

Hey, it's not that I don't understand the motivations, and Matt, you're probably right; my guess is, it's up to the listing parties whether they're named or not. It could be a dealbreaker for some who'd otherwise choose to not run a listing, it's just that for me, the idea of not knowing who has my music drives me nuts. I hear everything on Soundcloud has been hijacked and is being made available for free downloading, somewhere, but I just try real hard not to think about that.

I keep all my stuff private for that reason.
