Never having to switch 'views' when tracking/mixing, since it's a single-screen interface.
Actually my preference is to have the track view on one monitor and the mixer on the other, the mixer in Sonar 8.5 is pretty compact but I find it easy read at a glance and it fits lots of channels on monitor..the channel strips on the newer versions take up a fair bit more real estate on the screen and the colour schemes they favour seems to make it harder to read which feels like a step backwards.

Will Tracktion allow the mixer to be undocked and put on a 2nd monitor ?

:? Probably not, because it's setup is different than most daws. Think horizontal instead of vertical. There is a larger property window at the bottom for whatever insert you are adjusting. My guess the theory is that you can only view and adjust one thing at a time, so why occupy so much real estate at once, unlike an analog mixer or software mixer like the Harris Mixbus.

That's how I mix as well. I must admit i like sonars mixer better. You can fit more for sure. And when u minimize the channel size you can still see the plugin box and sends. On S1, there is also a way to narrow strips in the mixer, giving much more room but you lose the ability to see plugins and sends without widening that channel. So I usually leave the channel strips normal size in S1. Unless I have 30+ tracks then I will narrow them and widen each one as i need it. The new Sonar also has Mix Recall, which I wish S1 had. One thing I love about S1's mixer is that you can mirror the folder view. So if u close a folder, only its bus channel remains (if you choose this setting). Giving you much room and freedom when you use multiple folders. It also has VCA faders now which I didn't think i needed but I use frequently now.

I guess it's nice to keep things compact if you are working on a single screen or your laptop etc. but I find the screenshot of the Harrison Mixer so much easier to tell what's happening at a glance. Maybe it's growing up on analogue mixers !

An engineer friend of mine uses Mixbus and just got the new upgrade (32c I believe) . I sat with him and watched him mix and he let me play with the session a bit. Very very nice to mix on. I didnt have to think about any plugins bc everything is right on the mixer (even tape sat). And sounds amazing as a DAW. (yes this particular daw definitely has a "sound" to it) . For me, I didnt want to buy it because tracking and editing on it looked like a nightmare (to me). And I dont believe 32c has a demo. But to mix a song on it now and then i would definitely do (and have done a couple).

Yes I really appreciate being able to see the little "Per channel EQ" plot at the top of the Sonar Channels ( I was never that bothered about the Pro Channel they replaced it with when it went to X1 though ) , I know it's not the best EQ in the world but it's really handy for using as a Hi-Pass filter or EQ-ing my FX returns without having to use another plugin.

I never did understand the difference between VCA faders Vs just grouping stuff together? Actually the S1 mixer can fit almost the same amount of channels on screen with my 2nd monitor as Sonar 8.5 ..certainly more than Sonar Producer. I find the others very flat looking and harder to read though..not much clarity between each channel strip and the the busses. Grumpy old man syndrome !

Studio One - not bad but can't see as much info as Sonar 8.5..Hi Pass filters etc.

Sonar Producer ..Why such wide channel strips !

Sonar 8.5 ( same project as Sonar Producer )

In the new sonar you are referring to, u can click narrow strips to get some more room in sonar. And you can see eq plots and comprrssion in S1. If you are using the stock proeq. Click on the arrow next to the plugin and click expand. You will then see the proeq plot

Yeah I know about the narrow strips, it still shows far less than S1 or Sonar 8.5 though...that's a good tip about the Pro Eq though..I didn't know you could do that and it makes it far more like what I am used to.

I see on this video for S1 they seem to have automation actually on the track like I'd want to use it ? Any ideas?

In the car (wife driving) right now so can't check the vid yet but what i was trying to tell u is if u drag the automation hand right on to the track and not into an empty space you will get the automation lane directly on top of the track like u want. My shortcut is the letter A and it will show/hide track automation. I have really found S1 so much better/easier/more intuitive for auto.
