when filing a copyright send both recording and music?

Post by Susanstunes » Fri Jul 15, 2016 9:01 am

Hi everyone,
I have been filing my copyrights at http://www.copyright.gov and wondering if it is necessary to always send them BOTH the recording (if it is recorded) AND the written music (leads sheet with melody chords and lyrics) every time... Curious- what does everyone else do?

I have always just sent the recording and a lyric sheet if applicable. And I haven't bothered too much about the quality of the recording, a work tape is fine as long as the melody and arrangement can be clearly heard.

cheers
