newish tune, looking for a la's and feedback UPDATED Mix

Post by johnlewitt » Wed Jul 20, 2016 5:31 pm

Here's one that I wrote with Andy Mackay. Andy wrote the lyrics specifically for a certain listing(s) and then I came up with this. We submitted it to something awhile back, but nothing came of it. As such it slipped off my radar, but it just popped up on my iPhone as I was walking the dog and I thought it was catchy.

So, do any a la's come to mind?

How's the mix sound to your ears?

Thanks for listening.

John

Hey John it's a nice feel good song. :)

It might just be me today but it seemed quite bright and over crowded in the upper mids to highs.

I'd cut back the high attack on the snare a bit too.

Hi John Your music making is getting so much more refined. liked the tune and the feel. Makes me wanna be a part of a line dance with this. The kind that you hang on to the hips of the chick in front of you etc  mix sounds good to me an yes a little JB :

Sincerely

paul

I think the snare is a little overpowering; it seems to be competing in the same space as the vocals, especially during the verses. Also, I'm not sure if it's b/c of the way the guitar is being played but the snare also sounds too compressed.

Otherwise, it sounds great. Love the vibe and feel of the song.

Nice John!
A bit crispy...
Maybe pull the Crashes that are Hard Left/Right in a little towards center...
They feel all alone out there to my ears.
Toms sound Nice
Your main vocal could possibly use a little more low end richness which might also balance out the Highs

Hi John

I can also hear a Jimmy Buffet feel for this song. I love the chorus, it has an easy going , tropical feel to it. I can see it being used in one of those reality shows about buying a home on a island etc. Nice job to both of you :)

Thanks everybody for the comments. I will get to work on refining the mix.

The Jimmy Buffet a la's are interesting, as he's not someone who I've ever really listened to.

Great lyric too, I'm getting a Kenny Chesney vibe. Feel good country beach time..
Mix sounded rough and unbalanced at this point. Attention to levels (especially drums) and light compression maybe..
