registering songs with PRO

Post by funsongs » Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:41 am

Greetings, Taxi-Peeps.
Sorta jumping-the-gun, I set up an account with BMI 6 years ago, but didn't have any finished songs or projects to register.

Now, finally on the verge of having my first CD done, I'm curious about the recommended way of registering such that for these self-produced items I am both songwriter & publisher
(i.e. noting on the CD case funsongs music/BMI).

Got advice?
Thanks.

2 ways.

register as writer and utilize "excess writers clearance" to register the publishers share as well (so you own 200% in BMI's language).

or,

register a publishing company via BMI ($150 for sole proprietorship, more for other kinds of companies)

and then register writer as you and publisher as your publishing company.

Okay - so:
Peter A. Rahill as writer + funsongs music as publishing company = same 200%?
I think that's my preference; thanks, Professor Andy.
Cheers

yeah.

BMI has 100% of song as writers, and 100% of song as publishers for a total of 200%.

Andy Gabrys 100% writer
Chez Alex Music 100% publisher.
