Baffling dramedy returns...
Thought for sure these fit the listing. Here's what the screener had to say: "Interesting cues, but not sneaky or suspenseful enough. The arrangement has room to be tighter, as well the mood and vibe isn't compelling enough." Huh? Nowhere did the listing say it had to be suspenseful. I was going for mischievous, quirky, fun, silly, sneaky... just as it says. Sure am scratching my head on this one...

MISCHIEVOUS, QUIRKY DRAMEDY-Style INSTRUMENTAL CUES are quickly needed for several, Non-Exclusive placements by the Music Supervisor of a brand new cooking show. They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Cues that you could hear on shows like (but not limited to): Long Island Medium, Our Little Family, Worst Cooks In America, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the following references to get an idea of what they need for this pitch: Long Island Medium (:03 to :15): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JBdrFhK7qs Our Little Family (1:03 to 1:42): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OMq8QDlqDY Worst Cooks In America (4:43 to 5:09): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ePa-XwdiRI Give them fun, lighthearted, bouncy Instrumental Cues that could work for silly, funny, or sneaky scenes. Instrumentation that could work well for this pitch include (but not limited to); Pizzicato Strings, Glockenspiel, Marimba, Xylophone, Tympani, Oboe, Clarinet, etc. Your Cue should have a compelling melodic theme throughout, with Instrumentation layered in and out to create dynamics and interest. You’d be smart to avoid submitting anything that’s frenetic or overly busy for this pitch, as that could distract from a scene’s dialog.

Your tracks are fine (not sure if mid-uptempo, but fun and bouncy and sneaky), I think the submissions were screened by the music sup themselves. My offering was also R'd.Give them fun, lighthearted, bouncy Instrumental Cues that could work for silly, funny, or sneaky scenes.

In this case, the listing party was listening for what they wanted, so not much we can do but I'm sure your tracks will find a home.

Re: Baffling dramedy returns...
I guess you're right. A couple of these have actually already been used in some dramedy/animal TV shows.

Re: Baffling dramedy returns...
Hi David-
I really like your cues. Besides sounding like they fit the description, they sound.. usable! It makes sense if they’ve been used in shows already!
I had a similar baffling experience - the only note on one of my returns was “too musical”! Now, i think I know what the screener is trying to get at, but this definitely gave me pause (and a chuckle).
Best of luck next time (for both of us),
Jerome

Re: Baffling dramedy returns...
I just recently posted about the exact same listing. I submitted 2 cues that I was quite confident with and made sure that they were close to the examples given. I got very similar feedback.
The screener simply said that my first cue was "not moody enough."
For the second cue they said "the mood needs to be more suspenseful."
Not really sure what that means...
Perhaps our screeners were one in the same?
Anyways, on to the next one for now. But it would be nice to at least have a vague idea on what could be improved...

Re: Baffling dramedy returns...
Hi all,
First time posting in this forum. I was baffled by this one too. My return had the following reply...
"The mood is closer to sneaky where as this listing is going for something more curious"
The word "sneaky" is actually used in the listing. I didn't notice the word "curious" anywhere. This kind of review is frustrating to no end. Taxi must receive all kinds of requests for dramedy music, so maybe it's hard to keep the listings straight but still...
Oh well, on to the next one.

This one is easier to understand. The listing is looking for "fun, lighthearted, bouncy Instrumental Cues that could work for silly, funny, or sneaky scenes." So the sneaky is a description of the scenes, not of the music they are looking for. Presumably they want to lighten up the sneaky scenes and in any case I would imagine they already have a lot of common sneaky dramedy cues, should they need them. Curious is a good word - it conjures up playfulness and expectation. It's hard to find fresh descriptors when you are writing critique after critique .

Re: Baffling dramedy returns...
sorry for double post but here are my rejects
https://soundcloud.com/steinithor/sets/rejects
quite pissed off cause the comments were crap from screener, mostly lacking emotional quality and mood or smth. I can accept bad music, bad orchestration, and music does not fit, but the listing pieces were exactly in the style I made
