Short Piano forward.. tried something different this time

Post by Paulie » Mon Aug 15, 2016 4:38 pm

https://soundcloud.com/paulcroteau/bran ... variations

I didn't have the confidence to spend $5 for a 30-second riff, so I submitted three variations of the same riff with the hope that the customer would like the options and contact me for more. :)

I'm still trying to get a better piano sound, any feedback or suggestions are appreciated (if you have them)

Hey Paul, the writing and the piano sound itself seem fine to me. The piano does sound like it's not in any kind of space - like it's straight down a wire - but the sound you have to work with is fine, IMO. I'd just put it in a room or space of some kind

I'm confused. are you trying to get a better VI sounding piano or are you trying to record a live piano.
I wouldent trust my ears if I were you, it sounds dry, but seems like a natural sounding piano.

Congrats on the forward! And good idea on the variations.

I submitted two to this one, but they were returned for not being "upbeat" enough. "Morning Stardust" and "Carefree Spirit" on my Taxi page if you want to compare piano sounds.

Sorry to chime in, but was there a listing for that one?
In my opinion variation 2 sounds better.. I've read somewhere, can't remember where though, that to 'create a positive tune' our ears tend to like 'upwards progression', if that makes sense.
My personal opinion would be similar to Mike's, and I'd add a tad of verb on the piano: the idea here is that it's played on a grand piano, and it actually needs some space (contrary to an upright one put in a room's corner)
But then again, it's all a matter of personal taste
Great riff, and congrats on the forward ;)

Great variations! Reminds me of Randy Newman.

Big congrats, Paulie!

Yeah I thought Randy Newman as well. Nice job on the variations.

Thanks everyone! Definitley not recoding a live piano, mine is not good enough. :) The piano vst for this is "The Gentlemen" from the Kontakt Ulitmate 10. I thought it might be a little dry, but I've been slapped on the wrist in the past for having too much of a room sound. I need to find the middle I guess. :) I was using one of the built in Concert Hall reverb settings instead of adding some on the master track. Il'll revisit this on the next piano listing, I'm starting to respond to more of those as I get more confident with my playing.

Thanks again!
