Premonition ©2016 Robert George BMI
Well, I parked my pick-up outside Gramma’s nursing home
And the grounds were rocky and the weeds were overgrown
Yet, my Gramma greeted me with laughter and a smile
And we sat and traded fam’ly gossip for a while
She’s a proud old lady but she’s prone to superstition
And I knew she’d tell me of her latest premonition
Sure enough ole Gram got up and closed the door
Then she told me of a vision from the night before
Yeah, she whispered to me of a scarlet flower’s birth
And related how that rose would spring from sour earth
When I left I headed toward the river for some fishin’
And I didn’t give a second thought to Gramma’s premonition
One mile down the highway and my smoky truck broke down
So I hoofed it to a Chevron just outside of town
Well, it cost a fortune for that place to tow my truck
On a whim I bought a Powerball and won a million bucks
And if anything could prove a superstition
My big windfall seemed to blow from Gramma’s premonition
Well, I made the most of my good luck,
Bought some land, a house and brand new truck
It was like a flower blossomed from a stone
Then it slowly started goin’ bad,
Friends I never knew I had
Showed up lookin’ for a loan
I started drinkin’ cos that money robbed me of ambition
And before too long I cursed my Gramma’s premonition
So I gave the rest to local Christian charities
And I told ‘em they could use it as they pleased
Next time I saw Gramma we were sittin’ in her room
Right outside her window blushin’ roses were in bloom
Now her rest home’s got a garden just like in her vision
Cos a church group came and planted Gramma’s premonition
