Which PRO?
What I'm doing is mostly electronic instrumentals for film/tv. Which PRO should I go with? I'm thinking BMI.

Re: Which PRO?
That's a tough question with no real deciding factor that I've seen. I decided to join BMI based on its history. I don't know of anything truly different between the two.

Re: Which PRO?
In the past, if you sign with ASCAP, you have to also set up your own publishing company which requires some work.
Not sure if that is still the case... (I'm with ASCAP)
With BMI that step is not necessary.
I recommend BMI to friends who aren't going to be self-publishing

Does that mean that you CANNOT register as writer & publisher with BMI? Not an option?cassmcentee wrote:In the past, if you sign with ASCAP, you have to also set up your own publishing company which requires some work.

Re: Which PRO?
You can if you set up your own publishing company but if you don't specify a publisher the publisher's share goes to you. I believe ASCAP changed it's payout policy concerning vocal/instrumental placements a couple of years ago. They used to pay more for vocal placements and now, as I understand it, there is no difference. BMI i believe still pays more for vocal placements. Just a recollection, correct me if I'm wrong.
