THE FISHING SONG

I want to catch a fish today, not tomorrow
I want to catch right now, not in an hour
I don't want to have to wait, until the water dissolves my bait
I want to catch a fish today, not tomorrow

I saw a fish floating stiff upon the water
I was gonna take it home but then I thought I better notter
It might be full of disease, so I'll leave it for the birds and the bees
I want to catch a fish today, not tomorrow

I've got a thousand lures and 37 kinds of bait
I've tried them all twice but here I wait
I've made them all shake and dance, I guess I'll give them one more chance
I want to catch a fish today, not tomorrow

Here fishy fishy, Here fishy fishy, Here fishy fishy,
Here fishy fishy, Here fishy fishy, Here fishy fishy,
I want to catch one right NOW!

Blood on the Moon

There was blood on the moon tonight
Children playing with the weapons of the night
Cold blue steel flashing deadly bright
And there was blood on the moon tonight

What kind of world must these children see
As they lay dying on a cold wet street
Are they wondering what just went wrong
Or are they cursing life be gone......life be gone

There is a conscience that society bears
Although well hidden within our despair
We must rise above to conquer the night
And wipe the blood from the moon shining bright

The children are the moon and you and I the night
We must understand that we're their only guide
We are the teachers, from us they learn to hide
Resulting in blood again on the moon tonight

We hold the answers
It's up to you and I
We must teach the children
We don't live to die

There was blood on the moon again tonight.

Never Pass The Dice

It rained last night so I sat and watch the raindrops fall
And I was thinking of you, wishing and praying that you would call
But lately you have had so many things to do
And in your absence I have found, the more I'm loving you

I'm alone and alive
Oh how I want you by my side
For to touch you would dry these tears from my eyes
I'm alone and alive
Oh how I want you by my side
For with love always roll, never pass the dice

It seems my love wasn't gold enough to keep you
Or were the stakes to high to hold a love untrue
And can I catch my heart, before it falls, far from my reach
Or will I end up just another lonely man on the street

Broken Hearted Man

One alone is one to many
Two apart is still the same
In this world of love
Is there any
For this broken hearted man tonight

He always held himself to be a dreamer
But dreams are the furthest thing from his mind
For in these lonely times emotions are much leaner
Leaving little room for dreams and their kind

Quietly stands this broken hearted man,
Holding nothing but his tears in his hands
As they fall from his fingertips
They begin to mend his heart bit by bit
And this broken hearted man goes on
And this broken hearted man goes on

Although sometimes the pain gets to real
He knows there'll come a time when he again can feel
The loving warmth of anothers heart
Knowing it's forever and will never part

One alone is one to many
Two apart is still the same
In this world of love
Is there any
For this broken hearted man tonight

First question is, what genre do you see these lyrics used for? Lyrical styles vary widely by genre.

Next, I would Google for current songs of that particular genre. Study the lyrics. Also, I would pick up 1-2 good books on writing lyrics. Robin Frederick has some good ones. Others include Writing Better Lyrics – Pat Pattison and "The Craft of Lyric Writing" by Sheila Davis.
