"Hey Daddy-O!" - 50s Rock

Post by Paulie » Sat Oct 15, 2016 9:04 pm

This was a fun track to crank out... I could do these all day. :) Due Tuesday looking for mix feedback.

https://soundcloud.com/yopauliemusic/hey-daddy-o

The a la's are all guitar based, but the listing doesn't really specify that as a requirement. I'm hoping this sax jump & jive feel captures the spirit of what they are looking for.
CLASSIC-Sounding 1950s-1960s ROCK INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by an established and well-known Music Library that gets tons of placements in Film, Television Shows, and TV Commercials. They’re looking for Up-Tempo Cues in wide stylistic range that would include the references below and other acts of that genre and era: “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj0Rz-uP4Mk “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8JULmUlGDA “Keep A Knockin’” by Little Richard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcJrExewkYA Although the references have vocals, they’re looking for Instrumental Cues only for this pitch. Please submit authentic sounding Rock ‘n’ Roll Cues that have that classic 1950s-1960s feel and vibe. What would be playing on car radio as four young men with jeans and white T-shirts (with their Camels rolled up in the sleeves) cruise the strip looking for some action? What would you hear in the background at Peggy Sue’s birthday party? Yep, that’s what they need! Draw inspiration from the styles of the references and send something reminiscent of that classic, legendary era. Your Cue should have the kind of swing that Elvis could gyrate to, guitar licks that would make Chuck Berry tip his hat, or a rockin’ piano pounding out eighth notes in the upper register, and you should be in the ballpark! This pitch is all about capturing the essence of the era with authentic-sounding parts, sounds and style. If listeners can shut their eyes and be transported to 1957 and some fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror, you’ve done your job well! A short intro, or no intro at all, a rocked out A section, and maybe even a little B section to keep it interesting and forward moving, could all work well. Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes long. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced acts in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Era-appropriate Broadcast Quality is strongly recommended. This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, and an 80/20 split in the Writer’s favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library! Because this is an Exclusive deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. TAXI #Y161018CR

Hey Paulie very groovy, great playing. Listening through laptop speakers the bass wasn't coming through, could be level or a tone /harmonics thing. Without the bass I thought the guitar was too high in level.

For me the sax level could drop or sink back into the band a bit.

Yo Paulie,

right out of American Bandstand! Vibe was spot on. I heard plenty of bass, however I think the sax may be a tad to hot. Great Sax chops btw. Fun tune, they knew how to rock back in the day. Good luck.

Sounds like someone is having a good time? Very likable !!! 8-)

The bass is a little ... woolly?
What would happen if you took an EQ and maxed out the Q thingie to have a pointy tip to sweep throughout the frequency spectrum to see what's there?
Then around maybe 3-5kHz there should be something that gives you some clarity, definition and chance for the bass to cut through?

Cannonball Adderly fan here, and that'll do very nicely, thanks! I was gonna submit for this, but I'm not sure I can make the deadline.

way good...reminded me slightly of Jim Dandy to the rescue at the start. Fun stuff, congrats

Good vibe, my man. Sax is too hot but it sounds great.

The general sounds is very '50s but it actually put me in mind of Louis Jordan, which was a little earlier, I think.

Nice work.
Nick
