Importand and Urgent.... my bad example

Post by Russell Landwehr » Mon Nov 14, 2016 5:42 pm

At the TAXI Rally this year I presented a class where I exposed people to a "quadrant" posed by Stephen Covey that deals with Importance and Urgency.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/or ... 80802e.png

The idea is that you want to deal with the things that are Important but NOT Urgent so that they don't become Important AND URGENT.

Well, I have a 100-year-old horse barn on my property that I use as an extremely large shed for storage of tools, and pool supplies, parts, and mowers, and gardening stuff... etc.
So the doors have been working on falling off for a while.... It was an important thing to deal with, but it wasn't urgent so I kept putting it off.

Well, while I was at the Rally, the doors gave up the ghost and now they are urgently begging for attention as they lay on the ground... (but I have many briefs from five Music Libraries to write for! OH CRAP!) So this weekend off from my day-job will be spent building and mounting doors for the shed instead of working on my five-year-music-plan... YUK!

I could have worked on those this summer during vacation while I was sipping margaritas in the pool...

There's your bad example.

Glad I could help.

Cheers,

But just think of the days ahead - when you can afford to have your butler fix things... while you're busy making more Mu$ic for the world to hear... :? 8-)

Russell, it still isn't urgent imo, pool time, mowing, gardening is finished for the season, nail the opening shut, and figure out the barn doors next spring!!

There's a country song lyric in that story somewhere.

Russell,

I attended your class at the Rally and it was very helpful to me; I'm trying to incorporate the quadrant into my cluttered life. I just wanted to say thanks.
