Stephen Baird gave a great EDM in the ballroom - a plug-in ?

Post by SteveK » Fri Nov 25, 2016 7:23 pm

Stephen Baird gave a great EDM presentation in the ballroom at the TAXI Road Rally! During the presentation, he talked about a plug-in that is a combination limiter/mono maker from a company called Plug-in Alliance.

Does anyone know the name of limiter/mono maker plug-in from a company called Plug-in Alliance?

I didn't catch that, but here are my notes from the session. Perhaps they will be of use in general?

THREE kicks… a punchy kick, a thick kick and a sub kick
Waves MaxxBass StereoSub Kick
Mixes without a sub (using KRK Rockit 6s), checks with over-ear headphones, Apple ear buds, then checks in car
Usiong Abelton Live ($99)
Create piano riff, copy/paste to ALL TRACKS, then clean up.
Some patch names" 4 bit triangle, Big Room Saw, Dbl Saw Fun
Nexus sounds (HIGHLY recommended) $249 starter
Recommends Nicky Romero "Kick"
Kontakt Adrenaline Bass (stock patch) Take chorus off of patch.
In Ableton add UTILITY PLUGIN, change width to ZERO to make bass and kick MONO.
Also uses Vengeance Sample Packs
Stock risers are fine… cues focus more on party energy vibe
DEEP HOUSE is getting popular now.
Stephen shortened both kicks to reduce sub boom/ring
Make everything below 175Hz MONO
Paul "yo paulie!" Croteau

I wasn't there, but check out Brainworx, they are a part of the plugin alliance, and do have a mono maker on some of their plugins, will have to check the limiters.

http://www.brainworx-music.de/en/plugins/bx_xl_v2

on sale $99

yes it has mono maker, listed in the manual located on the second link
Mono Maker
The Mono Maker is another true Brainworx
invention and is also featured in bx_digital V2,
bx_control V2, bx_dynEQ
V2
and bx_hybrid

I agree
He did a great job and he did it effortlessly
He did take time to explain everything
Made it look all to easy.
His track sounded stellar

Paulie if you happen to see this, can you by chance elaborate or explain how to make everything below 175hz MONO?? How would you isolate that frequency range to make mono? Thanks!!

I'm not Paulie, but one way would be to make a copy of the track, use a low pass filter with steep slopes and 175hz set as the cutoff frequency, and on the other track use a high pass filter with steep slopes and cutoff frequency of 175hz, and convert the first track with the low pass to mono.

Another way is to use a Brainworx plugin with mono maker. see attachment image, see mono maker knob, set frequency to 175hz, voila!
