Actually Taek -
I'll be coming from Osaka - so what do you want me to bring you? (non-parishable of course!)
Well, actually, I'm moving home to Canada next month, but still - I'd be more than happy to pick you up a couple of comfort foods
if you'd like to have them.

Give me a short list of your top 5 and I'll see what I can manage to get into my suitcase and past customs!

Cheers,
Nick

yes! i love that we're already talking about the rally and about food -two of my favorite things! :P

please count me in for thai and of course the indian food!!! i was going to say there is an indian restaurant pretty nearby (it's really more like take out) but ordering in sounds even better (no need to organize cars in that case). taeko, aside from the places already mentioned, there's a yoshinoya in driving distance (or a really long walk round trip) - about 1 1/2 miles away. and there's an aliki's greek about 1 1/2 miles away. also, i used to be on a horribly strict diet for health reasons, so i would go over to the whole foods on sepulveda and stock up on things that would last 4 days and keep it in the room. that's a bit further of a drive. i will probably have a car at least the first day if not the whole time so i could take you. it is best to stay as near to the rally as possible at all times though, so the places within walking distance are the best choices (subway, internet cafe, denny's, taco bell (although i don't know if they have any non-dairy veg options), and the hotel)! HTH!

PS - assuming they have the mentor lunches again this year, if it's something you plan to attend, you can select a vegetarian dish when signing up (again no guarantee that's it's vegan, but it should at least have something on the plate you can eat)

Good for you for taking care of your body! I'm a 'raw vegan' as of 4.5 years ago and boy... do I ever feel in the best shape of my life! But that is another story.

Some areas of So Cal are very full of wonderful vegan choices while others are quite void!

I would suggest searching a website called "Happy Cow". They usually have pretty good info for finding vegan places.

Also, being So Cal, (I lived there for 25 years)... most decent restaurants will serve you many dishes custom to suit your dietary needs. You can find many Thai places that will have a 'Green Papaya Salad' and you can ask about vegetarian curry dishes at Thai restaurants but have to find out if they use milk or cream.

You can always track down a 'Whole Foods" market and pick up many premade foods in their cold section.

By the way, I have visited Japan NINE times on tour! Love that country. Also been to the UK more times than I can actually count. Have a great rally! (Don't know if I'm attending yet.)

Cheerz.

There is a trolley bus that goes down to Manhattan Beach and back for 3.00... lots of great places to eat... my wife and I go down there for dinner and she goes to do yoga.
