Post Speciality Food places near Rally venue? (Updated..)
Hello ! This year, I am planning on going to the rally to meet you lovely people, and learn new things. I will be flying from London, England :)

I have special dietary needs, I cannot have dairy products (im allergic), and I do not eat meat (my body don't digest anymore) but i can eat seafood. I have been feeding myself well (thankfully, im a good cook) for the last 7 years since I found out about my allergy.

so Im very concerned about finding food that I can eat (possibly vegan or asian dishes) while im attending the rally. ofcourse i will pack emergency food, so i wont starve !

if you know any places that i can try, or kind enough to take me to these places, please let me know.. i have no idea about the area.

Allergies really suck especially when we travel to different countries. But im thankful that i can stay away from fast food, junk food, chocolate, cos most of them have dairy !

*****UPDATE******
after taking my recent allergy test, it shows I am allergic to wheat, wheat gluten, dairy. this really really sucks. Im cooking with wheat alternatives, and doing well at home. but this will make it harder to go out with friends, have dinner together.

I plan on attending the rally this year too.

About 20 years ago I lived in Encino California for about a year, which is pretty close to Calabasas. I used to go to this great Vegetarian place that served Lebanese / Mid Eastern food. Somehow I doubt it is still there. God time really flies!! I am a vegetarian as well. I am also a chef (as strange as that sounds). We should definitely meet up at the rally in November.

Jen, I'm fine with Middle Eastern food, especially Falafel and Houmous :D :D
Lebanese, i like the one with chickpeas and eggplant, garlic, tomato stuff (i dont know what its called). its so delicious... I googled the recipe and i sometimes cook that thing at home.

yeh it will be nice to meet you there at the rally. if you see a little (i mean im short, dont mean im a child) Japanese girl wandering around, its likely to be me. say hello !

Sorry, can't help you there. I ate at Subway almost every day :D The hotel had a pretty good restaurant, which might be to your liking. Was a little expensive for me, ate there once. I look forward to seeing ya though!

Of course you can get anything at their restaurant. It's pretty good but would be expensive morning, noon and night (prob $80/day). There is Subway about a block away which has vegetarian sandwiches. The Internet Cafe (about two blocks away) has international food so you could get veggie/seafood dishes there too. Dennys isnt' far... a few blocks and i'm sure that you could get veggie/seafood stuff there too. Pancakes if nothing else. :-)

Will be fun to see you and we all recognize each other by our dot (do you know about that?). :D

Thanks guys.. yeh, im so looking forward to meeting all of you!
cant wait.. gosh, im already planning of what to eat. Food, to me, is SO important

Matto told me about the internet place for cheap food. I think i will have a little tour of restaurants and cafes including there. Join speciality food crawl with Taeko, ha ha.

food at the hotel sounds bit expensive (dunno if i can afford much, as im traveling from UK) but i might try something there.

"Dot"... is it a badge or something?

A "dot" is a "dot" that YOU place on your badge, (be creative)... it just lets us all see that you're a Forumite.

Anyone wanting to do Thai Food - let me know.
Pom chop ahan rot khon Thai - pet mach mach; pud Thai nit noy.
Which means it will be authentic! oooooowwwwweeeeeee. :o

You'll see/hear a lot more about that as Rally time approaches. It's simple really... at one point we (the participating forum members) wanted a way to find/recognize each other easily at the Taxi Rally. Ultimately the idea of placing a "dot", a colored round sticker on your Taxi badge was born. It can be easily seen and yet other people don't really know what it is (and usually don't care). See a dot? It's a forum member!

Taeko,

If you are going to make the trek all the way from London, it would be my absolute pleasure to buy you dinner at the hotel one night during the Rally. ( we usually get a spontaneous group together to dine nearly every night)

Chuck

and Stan, I'd love to do Thai.
